Gas and electric for April

Came to £142. How did that happen, that’s more than my monthly food budget!
That means my quarterly budget will be over 400 quid and then in October it’ll be pushing six hundred which is more than half of my monthly income!

Have you been using the heating this month?

Luckily our bills are lower than yours - we'd normally use around £55 but it was £85 in April. I put the heating on five times for about 30mins to take the chill off and we did have it on for an hour on another occasion. Scary, it's going to take more than 30mins to take chill off in the middle of winter.

I didn’t have the heating on at all in April and my actual usage came to £230. £55 alone for gas, and that’s just for hot water. And I live in a 3 bed terrace with just 2 people in it. Winter will be fun!!

Mine was £57 for gas/electric combined in April. That's mainly just me in a 3 bed semi with student DD home for Easter. Daily showers, 2-3 laundry washes per week and heating at 30 minutes each morning with occasional boost in evenings when chilly. I do turn off unnnecesary lights, only boil what I need in kettle and stick on a jumper and fat socks.

Are you on the standard tariff or have you signed up to an expensive fix?

Is that your actual usage or based on estimates?

If you're on a low income, have a look on the Moneysaving Expert cost of living crisis help section and see if there is anything that can be done.

I assume that your on the standard variable rate? I would fix if you can as prices are expected to go up again in October. Being on standard variable over winter is risky.

Mine was £68. £17 on gas no heating on in April for me and DC15.

I got moved to EDF. I have a smart meter. Heating was on for showers. There are two of us here. Heating was on for 30 minutes at a time. But I have to do more washing than most.
Im on benefits. The heating is staying off and showers will have to be as quick as they can and painful!
