It is my birthday next month and I would like to go (I have a kidney I am not using to pay for them😜) but unwilling to go if it is only just ok. IYKWIM

Yes! It’s a set piece iyswim. He’s superb, some neat but not flashy effects great narrative arc.
How much are the tickets?

CaliforniaDrumming · 11/05/2022 13:13

I did. I loved it and he was superb ( as were the other actors) but it is definitely not everyone's play because it's about town planning. Quite geeky . I got a cheap ticket.

Donotgogentle · 11/05/2022 13:13

He was really good but I found the play itself a bit dry. Lots of lengthy explanations about urban planning issues from one character to another.

I didn’t love it but it was fine.

:) I really love geeking out about obscure subjects. ( I am not a town planner or anything remotely connected). Thought the Irish actress was great too, as was the actor playing the mayor.

I really enjoyed it and found it much more engaging than you might imagine from the subject. Ralph Fiennes and the rest of the cast were great although Ralph American accent was very patchy - would have been better if he hadn't bothered. However, we did see it right at the beginning of the run, so may have improved.

OP, do you know about Central Tickets? centraltickets.co.uk/ It is a seatfiller scheme and I just noticed they were offering cheap tickets for Straight Line Crazy last week. I get a lot of tickets via them.

boredsolicitor · 11/05/2022 13:29

also it's being shown in the NTcinema live sometimes towards the end of the month if you're hovering.

Thank you all, have booked them, the tickets were booked under disability access so were very reasonable. My DH is deaf and we have had mixed success with the sound in theatre (even with loops) and then one of the theatres told us that he qualified for access tickets which are £25 each, should have been £75 each.

I have some very hard years health wise, and then we had the pandemic so the last six years have been very hard and we have decided that life is from here on in, is for living.

It is being shown in cinemas on May26th but my DS is 21 on the 26th and even though he will probably be out in the evening with his friends it wouldn't sit right with me to not be there.

Hope you have a lovely time

Social media really is great sometimes, I messaged my cousin in New York to say that we were off to see it, he read the play last year, and his son is currently reading it.

We would never have been in touch if weren't for FB as the previous generation my father and all his siblings spent their lives falling in and out with each other.

We had a rather wonderful evening and it was outstanding.
