Dentists- What is this bump above my top teeth?

If you run your finger along the jaw above your top teeth you will feel a bump. It's above the perhaps 2nd from back, on each side.

What is this?

Is a muscle? Is it a root?

One of mine is swollen and sore, I don't know if it related to my tooth or due to fact I clench my teeth quite badly.

I feel left out, I have no bump.

But I am sorry it's sore and painful for you! No idea what it is though.

I'm not much help am I 😳

nearlyspringyay · 10/05/2022 22:10

I don't have a bump. Are you sure it's not an access?

HSKAT · 10/05/2022 22:10

Shameful place marking as I now want to know what it is.

I have the bumps either side?!

fucketyfuckwit · 10/05/2022 22:12

My husband had the bumps too.

It swelling may well be the start of an abscess. But I don't want to get an emergency dental appointment if it's just sore from clenching.

I have these bumps too but they are very slight, I’ve never specifically noticed them before.

it might be one of those things like earlobes that really varies from person to person?

postitnot · 10/05/2022 22:33

It's probably just a bony lump, they vary from person to person. If it's sore could you have caught it with your toothbrush and got an ulcer on it? If it's still sore in 5 days get it checked at a dentist

caecilius1 · 10/05/2022 22:37

Parotid duct opens there OP.

twoandcooplease · 10/05/2022 22:56

I have one on either side too. I never knew they existed

HollowTalk · 10/05/2022 22:57

Have your wisdom teeth come through?

Muezza · 10/05/2022 22:58

Placemarking as I too have the bumps and want to know what they are

Have your wisdom teeth come through?

Definitely not wisdom teeth. It's a couple of teeth front.

Wisdom teeth came out a few months ago.

Parotid duct opens there OP.

That's interesting. Since you said that the left side of my mouth feels more dry than my right. Probably just suggestion.

do you mean where the zygoma (cheek bone) is attached to the maxilla (upper jaw) ? look at a picture of a skull - the cheek bone forms a rounded bump as it inserts next to the upper second molar. is it possible you have an ulcer up there which is making it sore?

Yes, I think it's the bottom of the Zygomatic bone, it's swollen and sore to touch. Not a mouth ulcer.

I clench my teeth badly at night and have to wear a mouth guard. I'm hoping it's just that and not an abscess.
