I’m always in the lookout for a really emotional song that gives you goosebumps. I currently like ’By your Side’ (Abbey Road Live Version) by Jonas Blue. What’s your favourite beautiful song?

Sitting with a glass or 5 of wine and so many of these bring tears to my eyes

James Blunt - 1973 and Bonfire Heart
Oasis - Half the World Away
Snow Patrol - Crack the shutters
James Bay - Let it go
Incubus - Drive
Foo Foghters - Everlong

I'll stand by you, The Pretenders
Will You, Hazel O'Connor
All by myself, Eric Carmen
Seasons in the sun, Terry Jacks
Two Little Boys, Rolf Harris
Nothing compares to you, Sinead O'Connor
Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol
Dry your eyes mate, The Streets
Wires, Athlete
How to Save a life, The Fray
Everybody Hurts, REM

DH says anything by the pet shop boys, but that would be tears of anger and frustration rather than sadness.

I adore Have I Told You Lately by Rod. I would have wanted at my wedding but ex-h didn't like it and it never felt quite right somehow. Now I'm with someone who adores me, the song has taken on a different meaning.

PartyPlan · 02/07/2022 22:05

I forgot about Athlete, Wires. I spent some time in special care with DC when they were born and that song takes me right to then. There were some really poorly babies in there as well as a tree of remembrance for all the babies who didn’t make it. Breaks my heart thinking of them and their loved ones and how lucky we are when we hold our precious children.

PuppyMonkey · 02/07/2022 22:08

Stardust the Nat King Cole version is utterly amazing. The violin intro, you just have never heard such a beautiful thing.

Agree with Tori Amos - Winter. I played it on repeat the day my dad died.

I also love On Days Like This by Matt Munro / it’s the opening theme to the 1960s film The Italian Job and I just love it, his voice is so moving.

SadFace2 · 02/07/2022 22:16

God knows I tried - Lana Del Rey

American stranger- Faustus
Thunder road - Bruce Springsteen
Here you come again- Dolly Parton

TamzinGrey · 02/07/2022 22:29

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Baez
A song about her relationship with Bob Dylan. Beautiful melody and lyrics. Never fails to bring me out in goosebumps.

JaneJeffer · 02/07/2022 23:02

Some of the songs here don't fit the question I think - not atmospheric enough!

I'll add The Days by Patrick Wolf

CarrieMoonbeams · 02/07/2022 23:04

I see I've found some kindred spirits here!

Mine are:

Waiting for you - Nick Cave
The night will always win - Elbow
Bridge over troubled water - Simon and Garfunkel

My grandparents danced to this at their golden wedding anniversary party 😍😍😍 we've lost my grandmother since so is very special to me

HeadNorth · 02/07/2022 23:11

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton, just heartbreaking
Blind Love - Tom Waites, his voice is so raw and tormented
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their Dog after the War - Paul Simon- such a wistful evocation of surviving trauma with love

Thunderpunt · 02/07/2022 23:18

I wish there was a way that all of these suggestions could be put automatically into a playlist..... for now I will save/watch the thread and do it myself via Spotify
