I know you all love these…

woman works in a high stress job (maybe lawyer?) either gets fired or dumped.

ends up in the countryside and somehow becomes a housekeeper despite being v undomesticated (I specifically remember a live about her using spray on a granite surface and it fucks the stone)

that’s literally all I remember 😁

It's a Sophie Kinsella book, I think, but the name escapes me. Not v good

BreezeofGreen · 10/05/2022 15:32

Sounds like undomestic goddess

Kat1953 · 10/05/2022 15:32

I've not read this but does sound v Sophid Kinsella!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 10/05/2022 15:39

I'm thinking Lucy Diamond maybe?

bookworm14 · 10/05/2022 15:39

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella.

HollowTalk · 10/05/2022 15:40

It's definitely An Undomesticated Goddess by Sophie Kinsella.

balzamico · 10/05/2022 15:41

Can I add another? About 10 years ago, the world started turning more slowly and so the days got longer and longer, there was a fair/ albino kid who was effectively housebound because there was never any dark and it sent everybody a bit crazy?

stuntbubbles · 10/05/2022 15:41

The Sophie Kinsella one. Especially if she also bakes some rock-hard chickpeas and tries to shag the gardener in six minutes.

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 10/05/2022 15:47

You guys are all too fast for me 😁
I was excited because for the first time ever I knew the answer! Agree with all above, it's Sophie Kinsella.

TinaYouFatLard · 10/05/2022 15:51

Are we allowed to add others? There’s one that’s driven me mad for years. It’s a teen fiction ghost story. I think the main character was called Caroline, shortened to Caro. Her boyfriend died and haunted her bedroom. She had a wicker chair that would creak as though someone had sat down.

I think the author was from Herts/Stevenage.

Is that The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker?

hullaballoo19 · 10/05/2022 17:04

I also thought undomestic goddess, but don't remember a bit about using spray that damages a surface..

bookworm14 · 10/05/2022 17:08

It is very definitely The Undomestic Goddess!

balzamico · 10/05/2022 22:15

I've read this - couldn't remember name though - but it was good!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 11/05/2022 01:06

Oh awesome! Thanks all!

How could it not be a Sophie kinsella!

ok ready for a second one?
this I think was a Young adult book. I THINK I got it free with just 17 magazine.

girl goes to stay with her aunt whilst her mum (who used to be overweight lost a ton of weight and is now famous for it) does a publicity tour. She starts working in a burger joint and meets 2 best friends who live together and have a shit ton of cds everywhere

that’s all i can remember but I remember loving it!
