You might not have much choice left if you are booking in May 🤔

Kefalonia, lovely to explore if you hire a car then cross on ferry to small island about half hour away( cant remember what its called). Would love to go back.

Crete. Amazing beaches, especially on the south coast. Great, manageable cities - Chania is particularly lovely. Diverse Airbnbs - you can stay in a Venetian townhouse in Chania or Rethymno, spend a few nights in a rural mountain village inland (with a pool!), head south for 10 days by the beach - Plakias, Sougia etc. (or the northwest tip or Balos), visit wineries and of course Knossos near/in Heraklion.

You could literally fly into Chania and never leave the westernmost end of the island and get city, beaches, mountains, gorges, wineries, and ruins.

I sound like I'm sponsored by the Crete Tourist Board, but we've been there a couple of times with the kids and there's so much to do (and it's cheap). Can't wait to go back some time.

Been to Kefalonia and Crete. Prefer Crete.

Another one for Crete.

It is absolutely stunning - the beaches are incredible, the sea warm and clear. Lots of places to go exploring. The locals we met were all very kind & friendly.
We’ve stayed in Chania, the beaches on the western side are out of this world. Chania old town is so pretty too. Agios Nikolaos is also beautiful. Lots of amazing places to eat. All wonderful. We can’t wait to go back with our dc.

Skopelos is very lovely, in the northern Aegean. And the Peloponnese. You could do day or so in Athens and drive over. It's a wonderful area full of archaeologic sites like Mycenae and Epidaurus, and marvelous beaches, mountains, just brilliant.
