How many pizzas should I get in

For 16 adults for lunch? And would you buy them in advance to cook yourself or order delivery? Thank you

Depends if you're doing sides with the pizza and how big your oven is

Strugglingtodomybest · 09/05/2022 14:55

Depends on how big each pizza is. Personally, I'd buy one per person. I could only fit 4 in the oven at once, so I'd be dishing them up once cooked and then I'd be able to tell if I needed to cook them all or not, and I would freeze the unused ones.

catsonahottinroof · 09/05/2022 14:59

Yes I'd probably order delivery so everyone could eat at the same time. And you wouldn't need as many for lunch as if having for an evening meal but again, depends on sides. So for lunch I would say 8 should be plenty, especially with salads.

Caspianberg · 09/05/2022 14:59

I would order in. 16 people is a lot to cater for in one oven for pizza

16 pizzas

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/05/2022 15:05

General rule of thumb when I worked in hospitality was half a 12inch pizza per person plus sides so this is what I've always stuck to.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/05/2022 15:07

Depends on the cooking facilities and how you plan to serve them. We have two ovens so could probably cook 6 at a time and put them on platters for people to take by the slice.

Or places like Domino's do offers and you could get large ones for about £8 each at lunchtime, so not that much more expensive than nice supermarket ones, which are usually £4-5 each and not as big.

Unless these adults are rugby players, about 6-8 large pizzas would probably be more than enough if you put coleslaw and salad out too and you can always plan to eat or freeze any leftovers.

Planesmistakenforstars · 09/05/2022 15:08

The fact you think it might be possible to cook enough pizzas for 16 people in a home oven, suggests you are wildly underestimating how many to get. Order in and get 1 large pizza per 2 people.

nearlyspringyay · 09/05/2022 15:10

Order in. Unless you've got four ovens. Pizza for numbers is a pain in the arse.

DappledShade · 09/05/2022 15:10

I'd probably go for 9 large pizzas, so half a large pizza per person, a little bit extra and some sides (salad, wedges etc). Ordering in will definitely be easier, but also much more expensive so it depends what you'd prefer in that regard.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/05/2022 15:11

Delivery. 9 inch pizzas I'd order 18 at least.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/05/2022 15:12

If you have a costco card they do 18inch precooked pre ordered. Very nice!!

BarbaraofSeville · 09/05/2022 15:14

Oh, I forgot about Costco. Much cheaper and nicer than Domino's but that's not difficult.

Why would you order tiny 9inch pizzas?

justanotherlaura · 09/05/2022 15:17

I used to order pizza for my work, I'd order 1 pizza per 2 people and add one for luck so that would be 9 pizzas for 16 people. we never had sides though, just pizza

Sorry I don't mean I would order 9inch ones but just that if that's the size they sell, that's how many I'd get. Obvs bigger the better, then fewer of them.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 09/05/2022 15:20

Depends on pizza size and if you are doing sides.

Absolutely order in, will be a logistical nightmare cooking them.

Smaller sourdough type pizzas I would go half a pizza each plus sides.

shumway · 09/05/2022 15:22

Order in. Get 8.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/05/2022 15:26

Order in. Get 8.

What size?

If this is all there is, then is half a 12inch pizza really sufficient?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 09/05/2022 15:31

Look for somewhere with a two for one offer and order in. I’d say ten large.

BlimBosh · 09/05/2022 15:32

Do garlic bread in the oven and a salad with 7 large pizzas.

Call around your local pizza places and ask for a deal.

Alwayspaintyournails · 09/05/2022 15:35

I would pre make a few salads, dips and crisps and order in ten pizzas.

RuthW · 09/05/2022 15:38

I would get 16 to avoid running out or 12 with lots of sides.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/05/2022 16:04

If you call dominos and let them know you are placing a large order (in advance) they will supply you with a one off code to use for 50% off an order over £100 (only pizzas are counted in this, amd able to be discounted).

Then you call the branch on the morning of, place the order, supply the code and pay/book delivery slot.

ThreeRingCircus · 09/05/2022 16:05

I would definitely order in so that everyone can eat at the same time and I would work on the premise of half a pizza per adult but would probably order a little bit extra so would say 9 large pizzas and a few sides.

SliceoQuiche · 09/05/2022 16:19

We had 21 of us away together earlier this year and had 8 pizzas with sides and dips from Tesco. Wasn’t a lot left and the sides definitely helped!
