any pharmacists around or anyone else that takes this? Iv been having really bad nightmares and read it could be a side effect of this drug, feeling a bit apprehensive about taking it now, do you think it’s safe?

I’m also taking this, i’m two weeks in and not convinced it’s making any difference. No nightmares, sorry you are suffering with that OP, just following out of interest 🙂

Been on it for nearly two years, haven't noticed any nightmares but I'm on three other antihistamines so I sleep like the dead!

Aw thank you 😊 I’m maybe overthinking it because I read it somewhere so could be coincidence but I’ll keep an eye on it!!

I have been taking montelukast for many years (asthmatic) no side effects.

LadyHelenaJustina · 08/05/2022 22:46

I took it for a while - no nightmares here.

Ds had to take it last year. We were warned about this as a possibile effect but fortunately he didn’t experience it.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 08/05/2022 22:50

It gave me nightmares too. I don’t take it at bedtimes, I take it about 6pm. That way it works as it’s meant to but doesn’t disturb my dreams.

Egghead68 · 08/05/2022 22:50

I love it and don’t get nightmares.

VeronicaM27 · 08/05/2022 22:53

I've been on it for just over a week. I don't have nightmares but my dreams are more vivid. I'm also feeling extremely irritable and short tempered but I'm also having problems with my period at the moment so not sure if it's related.

Terferama · 08/05/2022 22:59

I have asthma and bronchiectasis and have taken Montelukast more than once before. Each time I had no side effects but stopped because I didn’t think it was doing anything for me. But the last time I tried it (GP very insistent I should) I had absolutely hellish dreams and felt almost suicidal on waking.

@GoofyIsACow In my experience, it takes at least 4 weeks of taking it without fail to make a difference initially, but then it really does help. I went off it to TTC several years ago and I miss it, I really noticed the difference once I stopped.
