Skin cancer and lymph node biopsy.

DownTownAbbey2 · 08/05/2022 22:01

I need to decide whether to have some lymph nodes removed to be tested to see if malignant melanoma has spread.
Anyone else been in this position?
There’s a 6% chance the melanoma has spread from a mole that’s been removed but the lymph node biopsy has a 10% chance of me ending ip
with a permanently swollen painful leg.

I haven't been in this position (though have had a milder form of skin cancer removed). However, malignant melanoma should be taken very seriously and I would follow medical advice. If they do the lymph node biopsies, they will know if they need to give you further treatment now.

DP had this choice, and it's very hard as the lymph node biopsy is not really part of the treatment as such, it's optional, and they will not advise either way.

DP had it done, all clear,, no issues and great for peace of mind. There again, at the time I thought if it were me I wouldn't have done it myself for a couple of reasons.

He found it a very difficult choice. You just have to weigh up the pros and cons and see which side is the right option for you.

@DownTownAbbey2 Speaking as someone that has lost a very close loved one due to skin cancer in the last few weeks - please have the biopsy done
