What's the best way to get engagement from a group these days?

It's my running club. For years we've had a FB group and most members have joined that group. In the early years it was a very active page with lots of banter and shared social and running plans.

The club and its events are still well supported, but there's very little traffic in the FB group now. Is there something else we should be using to move with the times?

I think they can be a bit 'chicken and egg' - if no-one puts anything in the group they no-one looks.
However, if people are turning up to what is advertised there, then surely it is working ? Doesn't matter if people don't want the 'chat' side if it is getting the information there.

Spond is a great app for sports groups if its streamlining booking and scheduling that you are after?

From a social point perhaps a whats all with the group members would generate more general chit chat?

Twitter can get engagement too?

DDs rugby club uses WhatsApp for general chit chat, sharing photos and organising lift sharing. They use the Spond app for official messages, game dates so they don't get lost amongst posts on WhatsApp
