I am actually really sad, I loved him in Minder.

No! That's so sad. New Tricks is probably my favourite police drama.

romany4 · 08/05/2022 17:13

Very sad..
I grew up watching The Sweeney and Minder

P0larexpress · 08/05/2022 17:17

He was an abusive tosser by all accounts!

woodhill · 08/05/2022 17:28

Remember him in Up the Junction with Maureen Lipman

Very odd film

Georgeskitchen · 08/05/2022 17:31

The Sweeney with the legendary John Thaw x

mmmmmmghturep · 08/05/2022 17:32

@woodhill Adrienne Posta was brilliant in that

StrawberryPot · 08/05/2022 17:34

Oh how sad 😞

Strugglingtodomybest · 08/05/2022 17:40

A lovely man? I don't think so, a charming man maybe, but a lot of abusers are.

I loved him in Minder but was disgusted about his comments about having punched his wife in the face.

Strugglingtodomybest · 08/05/2022 17:41

The Life and Loves of a She Devil... I'd forgotten about that @clarepetal! I loved it too.

ExtraordinaryBehaviour · 08/05/2022 20:01

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/05/2022 20:49

my dh saw him in a pub in london, he came in with 4 minders!

Tagliatellme · 08/05/2022 20:56

"She certainly wasn't a beaten wife, she was hit and that's different."

"It's not hard for a woman to make a man hit her."

"The problem with strong, intelligent women is that they can argue, well."

Quotes from Dennis Waterman. He really wasn't a 'lovely man'.

OvaryActions · 08/05/2022 20:58

I had to google him as I wasn't sure who he was but I think it's sad that time and again so many people overlook male actors abuse just because they liked his character in a show/movie 🤷🏽‍♀️

MrsLargeEmbodied · 08/05/2022 21:13

he played some great iconic characters

Time40 · 08/05/2022 21:19

RIP my foot. He was an abuser.

My thoughts are for his family as they mourn, especially for his children. I lost respect for him as I have no time for any man who hits a woman.

Popsicle33 · 08/05/2022 21:38

He was great in everything. He was in a fab series called Moses Jones, and I loved him in She Devil. The domestic violence stuff was probably 40 years ago, who can remember the facts?

I agree with every word of this, any man who hits a woman is worthless in my eyes but losing a parent is such an awful thing to go through, they have a long painful road of grief ahead of them so lots of sympathy for the family.
