A shop. Called iconic

I came across a shoppe selling jewellery called iconic the other day.

This sparked a conversation between 4 of us on. If you had a shop called "Iconic' selling iconic things. What would you want in it? So far we have

Eames lounge chair
Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen
Glugge jug
Duralit toaster
Smeg pastel coloured fridge
Marilyn Monroe dress from 7 year itch

What else would you expect to see in the iconic shop?

Note just in case its needed. This is lighthearted

Birkin bag
The mod circle logo
Vespa moped
Bakelite telephone

bellac11 · 07/05/2022 14:41

Some of these suggestions are very recent, what about the Wedgewood vase or a Chippendale (not the strippers)

supadupapupascupa · 07/05/2022 14:41

Levi 501 T-shirt
Geri Union Jack dress
90's kickers with bottle top
Nokia 3310

Rubiks cube

Ah, hang on. I think I've got a handle on 'iconic'. So the cheese in trivial pursuit is the iconic thing, the game isn't?

Or Britney Spears schoolgirl hit me baby is iconic, Britney in general is not?

Yeah, interesting philosophical question here!

David Walker's pamphlet.

And a Dalek

iklboo · 07/05/2022 15:29

@bellac11 - I'm thinking it's things we find iconic maybe. Wedgewood & Chippendale fall more into 'antique' to me.

Undertheoldlindentree · 07/05/2022 15:35

Can we have a food aisle please? I would add Tunnocks Teacakes in their beautiful packaging (design perfection for £1.29 a box). And a jar of Marmite.

Iamthewombat · 07/05/2022 15:35

I love that you have called it a ‘shoppe’ instead of a shop. If it is indeed a shoppe then you are required to sell mead and mobcaps, and your sign has to be in copperplate writing.

bellac11 · 07/05/2022 15:36

They are antique (officially anything over 100 years old is antique) but they are also icons of their age, what they represented, how they were presented

Pears soap might fall into this category, its an iconic imagine.

A whole host of chocolate bars and chocolate trademarks came out between 1920s and 1930s I think.

Marks and Spencers branding?

Rogue1001MNer · 07/05/2022 15:44

Fry's chocolate cream.

Audrey Hepburn's gloves, tiara and cigarette holder from breakfast at Tiffany's

And a Tiffany lampshade

Great game!

Enko · 07/05/2022 15:44

@Iamthewombat Copperplate writing is a must

Mary Quant mini dress

Chianti bottle (and possibly Blue Nun, Mateus Rose, Babycham, Martini and a few more)

Planesmistakenforstars · 07/05/2022 20:15

A Henry hoover.

HighlandCowbag · 07/05/2022 20:26

Theworkhouse · 07/05/2022 21:24

Barbie

I'd say Sindy and Tressy - Barbie is still current to be iconic I think

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/05/2022 21:38

I don’t think @GertrudeKerfuffle has been given the credit her post deserves.

keziahmee · 07/05/2022 21:43

Tretchikoff's Chinese Girl (sp?)

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 07/05/2022 21:54

Can we have a car showroom, with a Morris Minor, a Mini and a VW Beetle please?

JaninaDuszejko · 07/05/2022 22:12

I think an icon needs to (ironically) be something familiar to many people but there to be awareness that it was designed
