Will crying make my blocked sinus worse? Or help clear it? Help!

In so much pain in one cheekbone and becoming slightly tearful as am exhausted. Even a few tears seems to intensify the pain until it throbs for a few beats and then makes my nose run. Should you try not to cry with blocked sinuses? Does it just make all the inflammation worse? Or would it actually help by eventually clearing them out?

I’d imagine it would help. Have you tried a neti pot?

I don’t think crying will do any harm or particularly help.
You might have a bacterial infection and need antibiotics but try the following anyway.
Steam. As much as you can. Stand in the shower for 20-30 minutes or steam your face over a bowl of hot water.
Drink this. Sounds disgusting but it’s not. 3/4 fill a mug with tomato juice ( from a carton or just wizz up some tinned tomatoes and strain) . Add 2 cloves of garlic, crushed, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice ( from a bottle is fine) and 1/2 teaspoon of hot sauce like Tabasco. Stir and heat. Drink 2 mugs of this two hours apart. If you like ginger crush a small piece and add that for more heat.

Steam, massage and if you can bear it snort salt water up the affected nostril. I get issues but one time was in terrible pain. I managed to snort salt water, I was sick afterwards but the relief was amazing after.

I agree with salt water and massage. There are particular movements and pressure points that really help. I also thinking getting out for a walk in the fresh air helps.

For me it makes things more inflamed

Garman · 05/05/2022 23:44

For me it makes it a million times worse, the inflammation and pressure.

I had an awful sinus infection and needed antibiotics. Can you speak to a gp tomorrow? I felt better within 24 hours of the antibiotics and back to normal within the 5 days. It was so painful.

I found that sudafed sinus max as well as ibuprofen dulled the pain

Close kitchen door, boil the kettle with lid off so it makes steam everywhere, breathe the steam in. Will clear blocked sinus.
