Why am I fucking exhausted?

I eat healthily, lots of fruit and veg. Non vegetarian. I try to get some form of exercise in every day, usually a long walk. I'm not ill. Recently though I am SO fucking tired, I need a sleep most afternoons to get through. I lack the stamina that I used to have in previous years. Do you think it could be menopause? I am nearly 52 but had my womb removed (not ovaries) years ago, so I don't have periods to know where I'm up to. I am overweight, I'll hold my hands up to 2 extra stone I shouldn't be carrying. I want my stamina back.

Quite likely to be menopause I would think given your age.
any other symptoms? Hot flushes? Sleeplessness?

Wishihadanalgorithm · 05/05/2022 19:15

I’m in Peri and exhausted. I bet you it’s that. If not, get your Vit D levels checked.

user476t58 · 05/05/2022 19:18

I take vit D so I would hope that's ok. I don't have hot flushes as such, I have an occasional very mild gentle warmth that lasts for about the count to 10.

Have you had your over 50s blood tests? I recently had mine and it turned out I have a 'very' underactive thyroid and yet I felt had no symptoms at all.

I've been on thyroxin now for 6 weeks and my energy levels are higher than they have been for years. I didn't really notice it slipping away over time and put any tiredness down to work and menopause.

user476t58 · 05/05/2022 19:33

I didn't know I was supposed to have over 50s blood tests, so no I haven't had that done. I can ask about that.

Pollen is high right now - could it be allergies?

HerbalRefreshment · 05/05/2022 19:47

I hate to be That Person, but I was in a similar situation - despite eating well and exercising daily and getting 8 hours every night, I was permanently exhausted. Went for blood tests at GP (which they promptly lost) thinking it related to an older thyroid/hormone issue. Thought maybe it was due to extreme work stress. Eventually through some other tests it turned out to be cancer.

Im not saying this to scare you as its most likely NOT cancer, but the fatigue was the only thing I had as a sign and I ignored it for too long. Needing to nap every day was not normal - I was put into medical menopause as part of my treatment and I haven't needed a nap since.

All Im suggesting is maybe make sure any needed scans or tests for your age are up to date in addition to blood tests.

Low iron?

Useranon1 · 05/05/2022 20:03

Is there a chance you're overestimating your healthy lifestyle? You say you eat healthily and exercise everyday, but also that you're two stone over weight, which doesn't sound like a natural mix. I say this without judgement as I'm also overweight!

JuneOsborne · 05/05/2022 20:09

Yeah, I took vit D and was still deficient. It was this time of year it became apparent too....

bippityboppity87 · 05/05/2022 21:56

Sleep apnea? I have this and I'm permanently exhausted no matter how much sleep I get and often need to nap during the day. Currently waiting on my CPAP machine. Do you live with anyone that can monitor your sleep at night?

bippityboppity87 · 05/05/2022 21:58

I only say this because carrying extra weight can be a risk factor
