Well done! Always takes a bit better when you use homegrown rhubarb! I love crumble

I do rhubarb and pear (shop bought pears!) Which I love.

And apple and raspberry if my kids haven't eaten all the raspberries straight off the bush 😂

I always make sure I add some chopped hazelnuts in the topping to

Oh and plum crumble at the end of the summer to

Best crumble IMO is made with tinned pears (found out once by accident), with some added ground almonds to the crumble mix.

Oats and seeds in the crumble. Very little sugar- none in the fruit, amd just a sprinkle in the topping.

Blackberry and apple is a classic but blackberry and pear is extra special.

Rhubarb and strawberry is delicious, I think I discovered this by accident. Also rhubarb with stem ginger.

Apple with some mincemeat stirred through.

I also love the random ones made from a bunch of fruit in the fruit bowl or fridge that needs using up.

Chasingsquirrels · 05/05/2022 07:35

My easiest is tinned apricot halves.

Love apple & blackberry.

Mum has been making blackberry & raspberry recently to use up their frozen fruit (they first have a good apple crop last year, their orchard seems to do a 2 year cycle).

I like pear & chocolate crumble.

BlueChampagne · 05/05/2022 09:47

Plum and cinnamon
Gooseberry and elderflower
Rhubarb and ginger
Pure raspberry!

balalake · 05/05/2022 12:22

Not apple.

I had so much apple crumble as the Friday lunch offering when at university, I will not touch it again. The university missed a trick not patenting their crumble as glue though, it could stick to anything!!!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/05/2022 12:24

I love Nigella's strawberry and almond crumble

TheSummerPalace · 05/05/2022 12:28

We love the BBC’s Good Food rhubarb crumble! Iirc, you poach the rhubarb in port first. I always put porridge oats and flaked almonds in the crumble.

EmmaStone · 05/05/2022 12:28

I love crumble, my weird kids won't eat it. I also have more rhubarb that I know what to do with (my poor friends & family get given bags of it at every opportunity!), so most of my crumble is rhubarb based.

My fave is with pear, but I also get a glut of apples, so autumn is mainly rhubarb and apple crumbles. I always add some stem ginger, some nuts to the crumble mix, sometimes some oats as well, cinnamon to both the fruit and the crumble (I LOVE cinnamon). And I had an amazing crumble, where the chef had added grated marzipan to the crumble mix. I haven't recreated it, as I might never stop eating it. It was delicious.

In lock down, when trying to shop less frequently, I knocked up a tinned peach and pineapple crumble. It has now become a favourite and is probably the most requested sweet dish I make!

darlingdodo · 05/05/2022 13:38

Plum with ground almonds in the crumble.
Gooseberry with a tiny bit of elderflower cordial.
Blackberry and apple with outs and crushed walnuts in the crumble.

The most important thing is fruit to crumble ratio......

Chasingsquirrels · 05/05/2022 15:50

How could I forget gooseberry crumble, delicious.

I also do half flour & half oats, add cinnamon, ginger & nutmeg. Occasionally put nuts in if I have some left over, but flaked almonds sounds interesting.

I have my own sweet cicely for the first time this year and put it in with rhubarb for a crumble. Twas a revelation - no sugar needed and the rhubarb was not acidic at all. A nowadays neglected but genius trad perfect pairing.

Hexen · 05/05/2022 18:33

I liked tinned apricots with a smidge of honey.

AnImaginaryCat · 05/05/2022 18:34

I live rhubarb crumble. It is the perfect crumble as far as I'm concerned.

When will I come round?

AnImaginaryCat · 05/05/2022 18:34

Love not live. 🙄

Luckydog7 · 05/05/2022 18:37

Best crumble was pear and strawberry. Apple used as a 'base'.

Also utterly amazing but unusual was a tropical crumble I had in Australia. Pinapple chunks, sliced banana and coconut cream. Served with double cream not custard. Mmmmm

Corkball · 05/05/2022 18:41

My mum makes the best crumble ever. I think there’s. Hefty dose of sugar in and on the topping as it goes deliciously caramelised where the fruit seeps through. She puts oats in too.
Im always severely disappointed with restaurant crumbles especially if the topping is soft

MarmiteyCrumpets · 05/05/2022 18:42

Apple and quince is lovely, although the quince needs a lot of cooking.

RightThenWhatNext · 05/05/2022 18:44

I made a peach crumble a couple of years ago, it was bloody amazing. Canny find the recipe now though!

JackieQueen · 05/05/2022 19:14

Crumble crumble!
I sometimes put a couple of spoonfuls of muesli in for a bit of extra texture.
