Do i take the tablets to delay period??

So today is the day when I'm meant to start taking the tablets to delay period, for my holiday on Monday.

Yesterday i had a bit of bleeding and thought fantastic, it's started early so will be done by monday, so no need to be worried about taking a pill 3 times a day and worry about side affects.

But bleeding appears to have disappeared again... no usual stomach cramps either so worried its not even about to start.

Do i take the pills and delay what might have been a period all finished before i even go, and risk that it'll start when I'm away, as doctor advised that it only holds it back for so long and i would be taking the pills for the max length that it works effectively, or do i not take it and hope that it kicks in properly today?

How close to period starting can you get away with taking it? Today is 3 days before its due which is what doctor advised, could i leave it another couple of days and then take it if still no sign or would that be leaving it too late?

I think this is the kind of thing you need to ask a medical professional about - try your pharmacist if your GP unavailable.

Not sure if i need medical advice, the worst that could happen is i have my period as normal.

Was looking for similar experience of taking the medication to delay period, and whether anyone took it closer to due date than 3 days. Also, did anyone have any bad side effects on it? Gp said that bloating was common, not sure if that would be just as annoying on holiday, and feeling all fat and self conscious.

It depends how much you want to NOT be on your period while you're away. You could delay starting it, but the pill will NOT stop it once it's begun - it can only stop it from starting in the first place.

I used to take it as a precaution before I went to visit my partner abroad, because my periods were so out of whack (sometimes only 3 or 4 times a year) that I'd take them anyway just in case it reared it's ugly head at the wrong time! Used to take it for up to a month or 5 weeks at a time and all was fine.

Never had a problem with bloating FWIW

Thank you! Yes would much prefer not to be on my period when on holiday. Will take it tomorrow, if its already too late then I'll stop and just deal with my period on holiday, if ive caught it in time then I'll enjoy not having it on my period!

Good to know that it won't be too long, gp said that 2 weeks was the max it would work for and might end up starting anyway towards the end of the 2 weeks.

I took these last month a couple of days before I was due on, I only went away for a weekend so only took them for a few days. They did give me bloating and I started bleeding a couple of days after stopping them but they definitely worked. Tbh, don’t think I will use them again as I’m now on my next months period and the bleeding has been much more than I’ve ever experienced before (currently on day 6 of heavy bleeding/string clots 😫)!
