Is anyone more antisocial than me?

My neighbours are planning a jubilee street party for our cul de sac. They've done these before and I've hated them. They're impossible to get out of because, well, I live here - they can see I'm in.

I've just booked a night in a hotel at the seaside specifically for that date to make sure I miss it.

Haha, I don't blame you! Sounds dreadful.

It's possible that I volunteered to work overtime recently to avoid a social gathering that I didn't want to go to. A night away in a hotel should like a much nicer way to get out of something!

I couldn't think of anything worse Grin I'm working thank god.

XenoBitch · 04/05/2022 22:32

Stand on your door step and cough... say you have Covid.

Hoolahulahoop · 04/05/2022 22:33

I have done similar to avoid going to a work wedding 😁i can do polite and so on during the day. I like my weekends to be off duty. Enjoy your seaside trip and hope you treat yourself to a nice glass of wine or fish and chips.

Hmmm, that depends.

Is your holiday the kind which requires no human contact for transport, hotel check-in, food orders, services, and checkout? I know actual antisocial people who have drivers, assistants and handlers who are instructed to avoid eye contact, refrain from speaking. All deliveries by online apps, hotel check-ins are keyless and don't involve concierge etc.

I'm guessing my colleagues are somewhat more antisocial than you are and have streamlined their travel down to austerity levels of social contact.

I irrationally hid in a bush to avoid a neighbour the other day. It was like an instant reaction to seeing them, I don't even remember thinking about it.

I was panicking, thinking, how the f do I explain this if they see me. How odd of me.

Other times, I'm full of chat and neighbourhood goss. I like my neighbours btw. I think I just had a moment of sheer madness. I cant even explain it, but as soon as I was in the bush, I had committed and had to wait it out lol.

Anyway, don't worry! A hotel sounds much nicer than a bush.

coodawoodashooda · 04/05/2022 22:57

I've taken the batteries out at Halloween before

WhiteFire · 04/05/2022 23:00

Yeah I'd go away too.

Furrybutts · 04/05/2022 23:05

I think I could actually beat you at antisocialness op. Grin

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/05/2022 23:18

I'm so antisocial that covid hasn't got me yet. I'm 1 of 2 of us at work, who not had covid or had to isolate.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/05/2022 23:27

I don't think that makes you anti-social. You're just not into a very specific type of organised fun. And it's easier to just not be there then to say 'I'd rather stick my finger up a pug's bum then attend your royal celebration'.

are you writing this message from the bush?

Shunter350 · 04/05/2022 23:31

Sounds absolute hell.. can't believe all in the street are happy about it.
Anyway great idea to get out and away from it all.
Enjoy and relax at the hotel.!

@Cloud16 this has made my day. Kindred spirits 😄

Jamepume · 04/05/2022 23:36

You are unsociable, not antisocial. Which sounds great!

JoeGoldberg · 04/05/2022 23:39

I have (on quite a few occasions) said I have covid so I can get out of going to things.

I also quite pointedly dodged someone I've known for years when I spotted her in a shop the other day, even though I knew it was her birthday.

RecoveringShopaholic · 04/05/2022 23:42

I once deliberately scheduled an operation to get out my own leaving do!

Wineat5isfine · 05/05/2022 00:02

In this day and age, I personally think that everyone can do whatever the fuck they want, whenever they want…when it comes to social gatherings. 🖕🏻

Indeed.

If you’re unsociable, you avoid going to parties.

If you’re antisocial, you go to the party and shit in the plant pots 😂

Bogeyes · 05/05/2022 04:30

My street is having a party too. I am going out for the day.. I don't want to socialise with the peasants!

Scalottia · 05/05/2022 07:48

I have definitely done this same thing before, to avoid the annual street party. Ugh, what a boring way to spend a Saturday afternoon. So we planned a trip to the mountains that weekend! Fuck me I hate forced socialising!
