How often do actors have bad breath?

I'm watching a drama which has plenty of up close and personal scenes where they're whispering to each other and I'm just wondering how far they go to make sure their breath is fresh?!

Is there an unspoken rule about mouth hygiene being perfect? Do some people bother and others not?

Oh thank God I'm not the only one who worries about this!

I have found myself wondering if actors who smoke freshen up and brush their teeth or turn up to their smooching scenes smelling like an astray.

I worry about this too! Also choirs.

I ALWAYS think this! So much breathy speaking in each other’s faces. Blurgh.

On stage rancid breath is a real hazzard. Projecting enough to fill a theatre for prolonged periods really dries out your mouth and however good your hygiene before you go on, there is a danger that it deteriorates over the performance. Up close TV work not really a problem (unless you already have one Grin)

I think this every time they talk in each other's faces, lol

I would like to think that any actor about to have a scene up close with anyone will make sure all aspects of personal hygiene is as good as it can be.

Saying that, I have a relative that works in TV.... she said the lead actor (was also the writer of the series) reeked of weed and BO all the time.

This question comes up quite a lot on Graham Norton Grin. From what I remember they always remember to have an extra strong mint - apart from the one's who love the lols so snog with a face full of onion breath (why do I think Jason Momoa did that to Emilia Clarke?)

SwedishEdith · 04/05/2022 23:05

Oh, I always think of this. And singers in bands when they both sing together at the same mic.

When I modelled in younger years, a Make Up Artist would always take a mint before starting to work on my face.

She would be close up to my face for an hour or longer, and it's inevitable we would talk. So taking a mint before starting the job was the standard practice.

Presume actors do the same before starting the scenes.
