Quick question about number porting on mobile phone

I got a PAC and arranged for my number to be ported today.

My old number became unavailable this morning and my old network said it was ported successfully.

I am inpatient and incredibly anxious right now (thanks perimenopause hormones).

I contacted the new provider via live chat. I got confused thinking as he gave a different number to be ported (the one on the new sim), but we got there in the end, he said it was due and would be completed soon.

Since the livechat the sim is no longer registered on the network. DH said that this is due to it being changed over, but I'm scared that I've f*cked it up by contacting them.

Is the not registered on network message a thing whilst porting is happening?

It can take a good few hours to change over but usually minutes - have you switched the handset off and on again?
But if you have concerns chat back

Yes been doing that for ages, it was just using the number on the new sim, now my phone says that the sim is not provisioned and when I try to call it says not registered on network.

Still not working, says emergency calls only

It's over two hours now since I lost any service. DH reckons I should wait, but afaik any downtime on service should be negligible.

Could me talking to someone on livechat have mucked it up?
