A relative with dementia who wore the same clothes for fourteen days in a row at the height of summer, including sleeping in them and refusing to wash the same amount time. He had "capacity" according to social services and doctor so nothing was allowed to be done about it.
It was so extreme on the last day that it was eye watering. Several family members tried, some more gently than others. We ended up "accidentally" pouring (cold) tomato soup over them when serving it and got them into the shower that way as we didn't want them to be "scalded" so had to make sure it was off them. The sores on their body from not washing or changing for that long ...!! How a doctor and social worker could have allowed that I don't know. We complained afterwards and "they hadn't realised that it was that bad." despite being contacted many times during that fortnight 😒
