As due to the cost of living crisis, me and my partner cannot afford to go this year!

Can any of you afford to go?

Yes, but we won't be going this year.

R0tational · 04/05/2022 07:31

Please share more about cheap hols @OnaBegonia :)

RagzRebooted · 04/05/2022 07:32

No, had to cancel our planned trip to Germany and get a refund on the Airbnb as can't afford it. Everyone at work seems to be going abroad though.

Yes, 2 holidays abroad so far and another booked for July. We also have one booked for 2023. We went abroad in 2020 but didn’t manage to go away in 2021 due to a combination of Covid rules / new jobs / moving house.

Whitewolf2 · 04/05/2022 07:37

We’re going away to Greece in a few weeks, but it’s a 2020 hol so have only had to pay for a few extras. Similar to pp won’t believe we’re actually going until the plane takes off! Will be dcs first time on plane. Am relieved Greece have dropped the covid requirements for entry as was worried about the testing for dcs.

artisanbread · 04/05/2022 07:46

Yes, going camping in France. We always put money aside for a holiday as that's a priority for us. We save money in other areas like only having a cheap old car and cheap PAYG phones.

EileenGC · 04/05/2022 07:46

Yes. My rent has gone up this year as has the general cost of eating, but I’ve booked flights early enough that they didn’t cost a fortune, instead of waiting until 2-3 weeks before like I usually do. It helps that I don’t holiday anywhere where I’d have to pay for accommodation. I only go to places where I have relatives, friends or there is very cheap / almost free housing. I’m lucky in that I have family all over the world but I simply can’t afford to pay for hotels etc on holiday. I do travel a lot on business but rarely have time for tourism. I’m going to the US for 3 weeks in July (flights are a work expense) and only paying for 4 nights in NYC as my own holiday.

VioletHills · 04/05/2022 07:46

Yes going to Spain next month.

CheeseBoard2022 · 04/05/2022 07:50

No haven't been out of the country since 2008! I'm sure you'll be okay not going away, plenty of nice hoildays in the U.K. for peanuts. Smile

CeeceeBloomingdale · 04/05/2022 07:56

Yes but we haven't been abroad since 2019. We had saved to go in 2020 but it was cancelled.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 04/05/2022 08:00

Yes, but we can do cheaper holidays than most people on here as no kids.

Going in mid May, 2x budget flights and a cheap apartment for 8 nights was £750, bloody airport parking was £100, insurance including covid cover £27. Plus spending money should be about £1000 each.

Affordable for us this year as we saved during lock down.

DeskInUse · 04/05/2022 08:02

Thankfully yes we can go, but primarily due to booking it ages ago and got a really good deal. I've booked another holiday for next September which I'm paying off monthly, again I got it cheap as it's so far away

museumum · 04/05/2022 08:04

We are finally using a holiday we booked in 2019 and paid for to take in 2020. It was postponed again in 21.

LadyCatStark · 04/05/2022 08:06

We are in October because it was paid for in 2019 😂. It won’t cost us anything extra because it’s all inclusive. We tried to get our money back last year but we couldn’t because of the whole red list/ amber list thing.

Baker90 · 04/05/2022 08:09

Nope but we are finally going on our holiday booked that was cancelled multiple times due to covid.

Parky04 · 04/05/2022 08:21

We are going to Barcelona for 5 days in September. Haven't been abroad since the pandemic.

pinkchampagne1 · 04/05/2022 08:25

Yes, we went to the French Alps during the Easter holidays to stay in DH’s parent’s holiday home.
Going to Duinrell in the summer and stopping off in Ghent for an overnight stay on the way back, then having a 4 night break in Sorrento for my 50th. Were meant to go last year for DH’s but Covid put a stop to that so we’re trying again!

poshme · 04/05/2022 08:29

@RedMake88 why is that ridiculous if they can afford it?
I will be going abroad 3 times this year. (Been once so far and 2 short trips planned)

We work hard, earn well, budget carefully (including lots of giving to charity, and voluntary work) and prioritise holidays over other things. Other people spend £££ on cars or food or hobbies. We choose holidays.

worriedatthistime · 04/05/2022 08:31

We are but only because its a booked and paid for holiday from before covid.
Luckily AI as well as so far I have saved grand total of £150 spending money for 4 of us and only one more pay packet left before we go

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 04/05/2022 08:37

We're going away. Eurodisney. Booked it during first lockdown to go away end of 2020. Bits of the trip got cancelled so we moved the whole thing to later this year. We can't really afford it but we've not been away as a family for more than an over night stay in about 8 years or so.

This will be our last chance at term time/cheap holiday as DC off to comp in September (no fines where we are). It's all going on credit card and will be paid off over a couple of years. We'll bounce the balance around interest free balance transfers till it's gone.

userxx · 04/05/2022 08:38

I'm giving it a miss this year, would prefer the money in my bank account as I'll be a lady of leisure soon.

breakdown19 · 04/05/2022 08:39

Well we can but it would leave no money for anything else at all

FindingMeno · 04/05/2022 08:41

No, but we usually can't anyway.
And holidays in the UK are pretty much out of range too.
I try to find contentment in a simple lifestyle.

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2022 09:06

Yes, there's only the two of us, the DC earn and fund their own holidays (they are both going abroad this year)

For me though I still don't fancy the being in an airport/ on a flight with loads of other potentially germy people and all the Covid faffing so not sure where we'll be going.

umpkj · 04/05/2022 09:28

We went to my home country in Easter but stayed in hotel rather than with relatives. We are going again in summer to my parents summer cottage. We might go to Rome in October possibly.
