Can I get away with trainers for interview?

Work in an office with an easy going dress code.

I wear jeans, even light wash baggy jeans, with a t-shirt most of the time, and lots of people dress similarly.

There are a few women who choose to wear tea dresses or men in shirts (usually more senior and work in different divisions).

I work in IT and plenty of senior people from my area still dress as casually as I do (e.g., coloured trainers and t shirts).

My manager is interviewing someone in the office tomorrow and has asked me (a junior) to attend to make notes. I was only asked today, and I don’t have any formal work shoes.

Will it be terrible if I wore trainers? 😬 I’ve joined the odd interview in the past to make notes but they were virtual so I dressed casually with no issues.

I have a pair of clean Veja campo’s which don’t look like typical sports trainers (bit more understated) which I can wear with work trousers and a blouse but super paranoid this will reflect badly.

Manager hadn’t mentioned to dress differently.

(Example of blogger wearing trainers with work trousers) - don’t know whether people still think it looks unprofessional

Our dress code is relaxed too.
Never seen any managers dress up to interview tbh.

In my line of work (marketing) this would be perfectly fine as you're not the interviewee.

Does your manager ever ask male juniors to take notes?

I’ve been in the office today (large international company, with a stated “smart casual” dress code. I was overdressed in a dress and trainers. I think smart trainers are fine, as long as they suit your outfit.

I initially came on to say no as I assumed that you were the one being interviewed. But in the context you explained it’s fine.

Only the interviewee needs to dress up

I wore dungarees on out last interview panel. But our office is very relaxed.
