Thomas and friends: All engines go

So, I caught this on milkshake this morning, my DS has kind of lost interest in Thomas - gone onto Fireman Sam so I've missed that they've done a massive overhaul of the show.

Erm... they've killed Thomas!! It's radically different - it's a cartoonbnow and has that powderpuff girls cutesy thing and kids voicing the trains. I mean it's just such a different thing, looks v Americanised.

I know there's debate on the CGI ones, personally I really liked them, at least they were realistic trains and railway, like the old series which is the whole point of the show and the books. It was by a railway enthusiast for railway enthusiasts!!

Aren't there legions of autistic kids and adults who will be gutted by this? My DS for example loves steam trains and Thomas was kind of a way in to all that. Can't understand why they went nuclear on Thomas and kind of destroyed the whole point of it.

Yep I agree with you. My son refuses to watch it. He prefers the 'real' Thomas.

My asd DS isn’t interested in the new version either and has moved on from the older ones (but does occasionally revisit). I quite liked the ones where Thomas went global.

Oh my word. My now 22 year old DD absolutely adored Thomas. We still have all the engines.

Why would they do this?

They’ve changed Fireman Sam to when I watched it with my 2 sons, now aged 26 and 30.

The new Thomas is terrible. We usually watch every movie but not the latest one because it’s the cartoon shit.

I advocate some things being so iconic that remakes should not be allowed. This adds to my argument.

Yeah I agree Reverend Awdry would be turning in his grave and it's a major shame they've done this. I'm surprised there hasn't been some protection to Thomas to stop it being cartoonised (bet they've thought of doing this before) for a wider market and keeping it's spirit. And the voices, they are meant to be trains that take themselves seriously, not little kids.

If DS shows an interest again we'll have to get the older series, this is just fluff and garbage.
