Met Gala 2022

Haven’t seen a thread so I thought I’d start one!

This year’s theme is "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" - apparently guests were told to draw inspiration from the Gilded Age.

Given that Anna Wintour reportedly pairs all the celebs up with the designers herself and basically decides what everyone is going to wear, she must really fucking hate some of those guests because there are a few absolute howlers.

So my thoughts:

Blake Lively- knocked it out of the park as always, although she’s so beautiful it’s hard to imagine her looking bad in anything

Amber Valletta- looks like an extra from Star Trek in the 80’s.

Ashton Sanders- just finished his shift moonlighting as a hotel porter and didn’t have time to get changed

Franklin Leonard and Gemma Chan both have a very unfortunate shelf stuck under their clothes situation happening

Sophie Turner- I think she’s sort of trying to channel Grace Coddington but it’s not really working… and I can understand a pregnant woman wanting to be comfy but even I draw the line at sliders.

Vanessa Hudgens- Dear God No with a side order of What The Fuck Has She Done To Her Face?!

Shawn Mendes- borrowed Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange costume for the evening

Chloe Grace Moretz- see Vanessa Hudgens

Jared Leto- resembles some kind of deadly sea creature

Jordan Roth- just walked off the set of The Addams Family

Autumn De Wilde- I don’t know who you are but you don’t look good

Michelle Yeoh- love her dress, fabulous colour

Reading with intrigue, although I understand fashion that can be worn for specific events or everyday fashion, but why do some designers design outfits that are only on the fashion / cat walks ? some of the outfits are not usual items that could be worn day in, it's almost like they are designed to be the omg factor ?

Not Jared Leto- Fredrik Robertsson (whoever he is)

Really?! I did not know this, I guess it stops Hollywood squabbling over who gets who though?

DF had a good article on the fashion fails.

Katy Perry, what was she thinking??

Cara Delevigne and the body paint - no

SJP - gingham??

kylie Jenner - bridezilla

It’s actually really pissed me off to see Kim Kardashian in Marilyn Monroe’s dress. I don’t feel that she’s really done anything to warrant having the right to wear that.

Only Marilyn had ever worn it, and now she’s in it, just because she can. Pffft.

SonicWomb · 03/05/2022 05:21

@ShirleyJackson I completely agree with you.

I thought Khloe was the best dressed Kardashian; they are always very hit and miss. Thoroughly unimpressed with Kim bragging about her weight loss to fit into that dress. And wtf was Kylie wearing?! Was that a joke?
Emily Ratajkowski looked frankly ridiculous.
Loved Lizzo's look - thought it really fit the theme well.
I liked Vanessa Hudgens, she gave off "my very wealthy, old husband died in mysterious circumstances" vibes and I loved it. Thought she could have done with a black veil too!
Gwen Stefani - she always looks good but wasn't sure about the neon.
SJP always looks the same to me.
I don't know who Jasmine Tookes is but I love love love her dress!
Glenn Close and Sebastian Stan appear to have both been dressed in the same material and colour so that was a bit odd.

Ostryga · 03/05/2022 06:13

Lizzo stole the show! She looked incredible.

I actually loved Kim K in the MM dress. It fit the theme perfectly (although not the right decade, but close enough!) I don’t think there needs to be some kind of moral or ‘deserving’ test to wear a dress. Clearly Kim K was considered good enough whatever the hell that means.

See, I though Sophie Turner looked amazing. Loved Michelle Yeoh too. Phoebe Dynevor looked great. Was all quite blah or quite OTT (which is actually my preference for Met Gala) I always think there are very few celebs who actually understand the assignment with MG though.
