I'm 43.

Ffs sneezed violently a few times and a slight bit of wee came out. Ffs. Is this my life now.

Yip. Stop walking and cross your legs. My life now 🙄

HairyScaryMonster · 02/05/2022 22:05

Just wait til you have a bad cough!

Oh you have brought back memories of going to the covid test centre with a bad cough when pregnant, stuck the thing up my nose, sneezed and then coughed, good thing I was going straight home because I needed a change of underpants.

Itwasntmeright · 02/05/2022 22:08

Ha, I did that earlier. Fucking hay fever

Bloodybridget · 02/05/2022 22:09

Lifting anything heavy, ditto.

MinglingFlamingo · 02/05/2022 22:35

Laughing. Is my kryptonite 🙈

But yes sneezing and coughing too especially when it's unexpected

Ireallymustgetup · 02/05/2022 22:40

If you can self refer (or get a GP referral) to a incontinence physio do. I struggled for several years after having my daughter, assuming it was just something I had to put up with now. A horrible lingering UTI made things so unbearable I finally got a referral last year. One appointment with a lovely physio who put me totally at ease and talked me through what was actually going on down there and things are so much better.

Flanjango · 02/05/2022 22:42

One major need when covid came out was pads. I knew if I caught that cough I'd be on need of them. Pelvic floors finest moments 😆

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 02/05/2022 22:43

Why, what did the physio do or say, @Ireallymustgetup ?

noblegreenk · 02/05/2022 23:02

I had a terrible (non-covid) cough back in February. I always thought I had a decent pelvic floo, but I was wearing tena lady for over a week! Even though nobody knew (except the pharmacy assistant) I was mortified about it. I'm only 36, so didn't expect this for another decade.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 02/05/2022 23:07

Get yourself to a womenswear health physio!

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 02/05/2022 23:09

Another one here with covid incontinence 🥺 every time I coughed I leaked. I'm hopefully over the worse of it now.

I've bought myself a big pack of pads, I'm hoping I can use them as maternity pads in a few months.

Since I had my first child, I always take out a spare pair of underwear as I've been caught out by the odd sneeze!

dancelikeyoudontgiveafuck · 02/05/2022 23:11

Yes. See also: coughing fits, laughing too hard.

Nonbio46 · 02/05/2022 23:12

I do the NHS Squeezy app that was recommended when I had a prolapse ( since had a hysterectomy). I do it three times a day and I’ve never had an accident ( yet 🤞🏻).

I do this. It's the only thing that works.

badg3r · 02/05/2022 23:22

At least you made it to 43!
does kegels

Indoorcatmum · 02/05/2022 23:30

A friend swears by wearing the Modibodi period pants!

PlasticineMeg · 02/05/2022 23:49

Can I just point out that, despite what the TENA adverts tell us, it’s NOT normal to piss yourself at the age of 43, do pelvic floor exercises or seek medical help.

This!

And if you have a stomach bug, wear a big thick pad. Vomiting causes the other end to spasm apparently.

Ballsaque · 02/05/2022 23:54

I have downloaded the Squeezy app but haven’t started it yet…. Will do it now!

axolotlfloof · 03/05/2022 06:41

I think pelvic floor exercises really help.
I do them sporadically and can notice the difference if I stop doing them.
Also the worst thing for me if pushing my bladder too hard. If I hold on too long for a wee then I have this problem for days/weeks after.

axolotlfloof · 03/05/2022 06:41

Oh, and don't go trampolining.

KangarooKenny · 03/05/2022 06:44

The women’s physio did nothing for me, she just kept giving me more and more pelvic floors.
Cutting down on caffeine helps, I’m definitely worse if I have a caffeinated coffee.

HoppingPavlova · 03/05/2022 06:46

You had my sympathy until I read ‘a slight bit of wee came out’.

Just wait for the double sneeze. While standing still, crossing your legs, clenching and praying for a small puddle may work with the first sneeze, all hope is lost with the second.

Apart from exercising your pelvic floor, what else did the physio get you to do?
