Can you give pet food to the food bank?

I bought a box of 80 sachets of Whiskas cat food as DPuss seemed to like it when he first came from the RSPCA. After sachet 79, DPuss will no longer eat Whiskas and will now only eat Sheba cat food.

There are now about 75 Whiskas sachets left. I was thinking that I could donate the box to the food bank as many people may struggle to feed pets in current cost of living crisis. Would they want this?

Yes, pet food would be welcome, as are shampoo toilet paper etc and household cleaning products

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 02/05/2022 16:27

Yep. I regularly take cat food that my fuss pot has decided she no longer likes, and there is a cats protection centre near us that take food too.

LondonQueen · 02/05/2022 16:29

Yes, along with local rescue centres. I buy an extra pack when I get my shopping and donate it.

User354354 · 02/05/2022 16:35

Yes. Also pets at home have a donation bin in store if that's easier for you

Rosina987 · 02/05/2022 16:43

Thanks all. Where do the Pets at Home donations go to?

Some in store collections are restricted to in store bought goods only.

dementedpixie · 02/05/2022 16:47

My local tesco has a bin for the local animal rescue centre

Pixiedust1234 · 02/05/2022 21:29

I always give my extras (that the pest has suddenly decided is poison) to our local Cats Protection Centre as they are desperate for food. Just mentioning this in case you can't find any food donation centres that will accept them.

Just remember that two days after donating your furry overlord will decree that Sheba is now poison and only Whiskas or Felix will do.

I had to use one a few years ago and got given car food. It will be greatfully received. Now I am in a better place I donate as and when I can.

It MEANS that you cannot possibly create a thread about this... without giving us a picture of Puss! 💕

It means you need to provide a photo of your cat...it's the law 😆

I asked my local one on FB and they said they got requests for it (and I can't be the only one who would buy food for the cat before I bought my own.)

Yes, the photo was essential. He's a lovely colour.

Yes, food banks will take cat food. Ours used to make up a package for people, then you'd get the choice of optional items on the side.

ImNotBeingFunnyBut123 · 02/05/2022 22:01

Now that's better! What a little beauty x

So handsome! Your local rehoming centre should take it Smile
