URGENT - can you cancel a Sainsbury's delivery on the day?

I've got £150 of food coming today that I don't need as I went on person last week, we had no remaining it was coming and it's literally our remaining food budget for the month.

In going into hospital tomorrow for an op and my dad was made redundant on Friday aged 75 so it's just totally slipped my mind.

Anyone know if you can cancel on the day? Feel sick tbh

Thanks

Ring them OP - I've had to postpone a delivery to the next day. See what they say

AlexaShutUp · 02/05/2022 07:20

Sorry, but I don't think you can. You could try ringing customer services to explain your circumstances and see if there is anything they could do?

jputthekettleon · 02/05/2022 07:20

Yes call customer services on the number on your email and explain you need to cancel. They may not have been shopped it yet so they won’t have even charged you. Do it as soon as they open. If they’ve already shopped it they will cancel and refund you but that does take a few days to refund. Good luck

ellesbellesxxx · 02/05/2022 07:21

You can phone them at 8… hope the op goes ok

I should add even if you did nothing you can refuse the delivery when they turn up or not be available and then cancel it after the fact but it means you’ll wait for a refund and they will have gone to the trouble of delivering so they much prefer to know in advance if you want to cancel (former online employee here). Please don’t worry it will be cancelled - just can’t guarantee how long it’ll take for the money to come back

Vsirbdo · 02/05/2022 07:24

We had a situation where we couldn’t accept our delivery as we’d had an emergency and they refunded the money as they could just put the food back on the shelf or hopefully in your situation won’t even have picked it yet

Toponeniceone · 02/05/2022 07:25

Yes with tesco you can refuse the delivery but you will have to wait a few days for a refund.

Neverreturntoathread · 02/05/2022 07:28

Yes. Try phone / internet but also you can tell them when they arrive that it’s a mistake.

danni0509 · 02/05/2022 07:28

Yes you can, the driver told me this, if you refuse substitutions or anything else he takes them back and they refund you for anything returned.

I would ring them at 8, but just don’t accept the delivery.

katmarie · 02/05/2022 07:30

Yes I've had to do it when I realised there was going to be no one home to receive it, I called as soon as they opened and cancelled, it was fine.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 02/05/2022 07:31

Thanks all, the payment has been declined so we may be OK, just waiting to ring then at 8

Really weird we didn't get the reminder though, bit it's still on me, totally.

If payment has been declined then they won't show up. Found this out when I forgot to put my new card details in after I lost my card.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 02/05/2022 08:07

Just spoke to them and she's calling the store to cancel, as payment was declined I think it hasn't been picked yet so thankfully all good

Thank you all for your reassurance, and for being kind, drinking lots of tea to try and make the panic subside

Used to work for them. It will have been picked if payment was declined, as they take payment once they know what's available etc. However, this happens often so don't give it a second thought x

Not sure about sainsburys, but I asked asda this question when I was heavily pregnant with DD (so I wouldn't be worrying about a pre-booked delivery turning up while in labour/hospital) - they said we couldn't cancel on the day but if we didn't accept it/ weren't in they take it back to the store and refund, but obviously that takes time.

Time2ChangeName · 02/05/2022 08:40

I didn’t hear the doorbell once and they just refunded me. I wanted the shopping but they wouldn’t redeliver. So you could just ignore them when they come.

Kezzie200 · 02/05/2022 08:59

I'm pleased it's sorted but sorry you are in this position OP.

I had a declined payment once and ASDA called me to amend, so this should sort it. However its polite to call them when you know, so they can save work if they can.

All the best, sounds tough.
