Weather has ruined plans for bbq

I’m so annoyed. We’ve invited family over to celebrate my sister’s recent pregnancy announcement. I checked the weather forecast on Thursday, Friday and yesterday just to make sure. Woken up this morning to find that 50% rain is now forecast until 5pm.

I don’t know what the point of this thread is. I suppose to have a moan. Can we just go ahead with the bbq anyway and keep everyone inside the house? I’m so bummed 🙁

I give you permission to have a bbq.

Whether you keep them inside or not should be a choice if the guests.

kitcat15 · 01/05/2022 09:44

Depends on you really….would you be ok with everyone being indoors? If it was just close family ( my mum, kids and GC) I would have a roast ie instead and reschedule BBQ

Cheeseandlobster · 01/05/2022 09:48

I learnt last week it's not 50 percent chance of rain but that 50 percent of the geographical area will see rain. Blew my mind it did 😀

You might not see any rain at all but be prepared to bring the bbq indoors just in case

I thought this was debunked as not being true?

Lol why thank you 😄

I mean, exactly, I can’t just keep everyone inside, can I?

But they’re not going to want to go outside in the rain where I don’t have a gazebo at the moment.

Just cook everything in the oven.
I love bbqs, you’d never at other time get away with serving guests sausages and burgers.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 01/05/2022 09:51

How many people?

I'd keep everyone inside, do the same food but in the oven if you can't use the BBQ

I didn’t know that!

Thanks so much for this! All of a sudden, my mood has somewhat improved 😄

DH’s mind is going to be blown too lol I totally did not know that

About 15-20 of us, so I can’t really do it inside. That’s my dilemma 😔

Dunelm do a gazebo for £30, click and collect

jackstini · 01/05/2022 09:55

Have you got a gazebo?
Tweak the time depending on weather? Go online to a specific hourly forecast for your area
Whack everything in the oven and don't worry

mariebaby3 · 01/05/2022 09:57

Was about to suggest a gazebo! we grabbed one last year for a similar situation and it saved the day (so long as it isn’t blowing a gale too)

I'm having my planned bbq today. Woke up to rain. Forecast has given 30% chance of rain. I have a big umbrella ☂

TargusEasting · 01/05/2022 10:15

Use this and only this website. Set it to rain graphics, zoom in and play, hold, play, hold until you get an understanding of the likely intensity and timing over the town you live. Never let me down.

Thank you for all your replies, very helpful. Didn’t know Dunhelm did them for that cheap, that’s not bad at all!

@TargusEasting going to have a look at this now 😊

Gonna have a quick chat with DH whilst we get everything prepped, will be back with an update as to whether we have been successful! 😩

@drinkingwineoutofamug i hope your bbq goes well! Oh and love the username 😏

Fil's 60th was a barbecue party. They have a small house and over 50 guests. It peed down. Fil stood outside with an umbrella doing the barbecue. Some others went out with brollies, the rest of us in the house. It was still a great day.
Have your barbie and enjoy yourselves!

Good luck with your bbq @runnerblade95 , love you user name as well blade runner is my favourite film 😂
Weather is actually clearing up here 🤞🏻

Champagneforeveryone · 01/05/2022 10:57

TBF it wouldn't be a British bank holiday weekend BBQ without either rain or blazing sunshine. I can't imagine your guests will be that surprised if it rains, assuming they are all long term Brits.

As others have suggested, you could try and pick up a gazebo from a supermarket/ DIY stores.
