How to write in greater depth

My child (8) had a school report saying that he needs to write in greater depth. Have you got any suggestions to help?

I suggest you ask the teacher and also to give you examples of what it is she means and how she can help your son to achieve this. You could also ask her to write her comments with greater clarity so that she doesn't need to explain herself to everyone.
