Panicking about DS’s head, anyone around to hold my hand or talk some sense to me?

I was diagnosed with melanoma last year, quite scary but luckily early stages 🤞

DS is 12 & i have found 2 moles on his scalp tonight. I am freaking out because I’ve not noticed them before & I’m worried they are new & he could have melanoma too (my grandad died of melanoma & apparently a family history increases your risk of developing it). I am aware that I am being a bit bonkers & probably letting my anxiety (sky high at the moment anyway) get the better of me, but still panicking all the same.

AND … it’s a bank holiday weekend so can’t even speak to the Drs surgery for 3 days 🤦‍♀️

Anyone around to hold my hand?

Children develop moles as they age, i had none when i was born but now have literally hundreds so it's perfectly possible for your son to have innocent moles you haven't seen before, far more likely than them being melanomas.
Im not a medical person but I try to stay informed about melanoma as I'm also at higher risk due to having so many moles (my Dad is a GP with a dermatology specialism though!).
Get them checked out for peace of mind but first take a deep breath and tell yourself what you know to be true logically, that the chance of them being suspicious is extremely tiny.

Thanks @Wbeezer, such a relief to hear a calm & rational perspective, I really appreciate it.

I am not usually much of a panicker, but really got the fear tonight.

As above.Get them checked out but it’s possible they were there but you’ve only just noticed. Or could be innnocent new ones.
My dd is quite moley and when younger would develop them over a course of a few days if was sunny.
I would quietly worry while keeping an eye on them. Thankfully they didn’t change and she’s ok.

Try to remain calm but vigilant.
Don’t let it ruin your weekend as you’ll gain nothing but increased stress levels

Just tell yourself you’ll deal with it next week.

Are they definitely even moles? I've just had some on my scalp checked and it turned out they aren't moles at all but some other skin thing. Just as an extra reassurance.

Cinapsrm · 30/04/2022 00:57

@ColdHappyBap I think they’re moles, but I suppose they could be something else,
thanks for the reassurance

Come on OP, what are the chances realistically? He's 12. Even with the family history, it's not likely is it?
Get them checked out after the bank holiday and chill out. It's not going to be anything Flowers

@CarrieCookie thank you 😘
