‘It’s like trying to choose your favourite child’

PriamFarrl · 29/04/2022 21:45

I heard this phrase again today but I’ve never really thought about it.

I’m not in the position to be able to choose a favourite child, but, if you have more than one child, and you know that no one will ever know, do you have a favourite?

OP posts:
PierresPotato · 29/04/2022 21:46

No

Maydaysoonenough · 29/04/2022 21:46

I tell mine I hate them all equally!!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/04/2022 21:47

No absolutely not, the love I have for them both is just all of me all the time.

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/04/2022 21:47

Nope. All different but no favourite. I still look on them with a feeling of amazement despite them being adults.

Hellocatshome · 29/04/2022 21:47

No, at particular times there maybe one that I might be getting along with better than another or one that I like spending time with than another depending on what hormonal teenage dramas they are going through but no I don't have a favourite.

AlexaShutUp · 29/04/2022 21:48

I do, but I only have one. Wink

WhatsHoppening · 29/04/2022 21:48

Absolutely not and I would find it very hard to have any respect for someone who clearly had a favourite (I know of some people for whom this is the case and it’s awful).

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/04/2022 21:48

Nope! I have an 8yo and a 19mo. They are so different but both wonderful people in their own way. They are both equally exhausting but in very different ways. I love them both with everything I have.

RefuseTheLies · 29/04/2022 21:48

I don't have a favourite, but my youngest is just easier, happier and more chilled. I love her and her stubborn, dramatic, temper tantrum throwing older sister just the same 😊

SpindleInTheWind · 29/04/2022 21:49

No, I really don't

GreenLunchBox · 29/04/2022 21:49

No, I definitely don't have a favourite.

I've never heard that phrase before....what's the full version/what's it about?

OhLordyWhatNow · 29/04/2022 21:49

I have a favourite daughter and a favourite son; I have two children.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/04/2022 21:49

My kids are chalk and cheese. So aspects of who they are make me have a favourite for this and a favourite for that. But I don't have an actual overall favourite.

I think idea of the phrase is that it's an impossible situation.

Person A:- let's get healthy. Shall we ditch alcohol or chocolate?
Person B:- oh god that's impossible. It's like trying to choose your favourite child.

Louise0701 · 29/04/2022 21:53

I don’t have a favourite. They’re all completely different and I love them all equally.

I do tell my nephew that he is my favourite nephew which gets me an eye roll (he’s 13) … I only have 1 nephew 😂

over2021 · 29/04/2022 21:55

Nope, I really do love them equally. It's a concept I couldn't understand when I had one child (for 9 years!).

RandomMess · 29/04/2022 21:58

No favourite here.

Love them all so much, find some easier than others to get along with. Definitely peaks and troughs.

tobee · 29/04/2022 21:58

Made me immediately think of the Radfords. Can’t get my head around being well acquainted with that many offspring. Let alone favourites. 🤔

Foodbanksshouldbeobsolete · 29/04/2022 22:00

I tell them all they are my favourite but ssh! Don't tell anyone. Hopefully they'll not realise I say it to all of them for a long time (or ever even!) so they can all grow up believing they have a special relationship with me (because they all do!).

Aah, that makes sense! Thank you

BertieBotts · 29/04/2022 22:04

No but I have preferred ages!

RJnomore1 · 29/04/2022 22:05

Whichever one is annoying me least at any given moment.

JoeGoldberg · 29/04/2022 22:05

Nope, I love them all equally.

Booboobagins · 29/04/2022 22:06

My grandma preferred her two boys to my mum and her eldest grandson to the rest of us (even though he went to prison for killing someone).

My mum prefers my sister.

I refuse to choose. Both are fabulous, beautiful beings.

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 29/04/2022 22:08

I have a favourite age so they've all had a shot of being favourite!

I use this phrase whenever I'm asked if I want chips or garlic bread with my lasagne or macaroni. Impossible to pick, triple carbs for me please!
