My baby’s birth mark

Hi,
I’m just wondering if anyone else has a child with a ‘stork mark’ that’s constantly peeling?!

They have a red mark on their face that appeared the day after birth. It hasn’t grown or changed shape since then (they are a few months old now)but the skin on top of it is constantly peeling off. There is no peely skin anywhere else. I asked the health visitor and she just shrugged and said it’s probably one of those things but equally didn’t really sound very sure about it.

Have attached a photo - sorry it’s blurry, the baby was wiggling away

I would see a GP, I've not known a birth mark do this.

My little girl has a stork mark it doesn't look like this at all. It's more of a pale pink colour. It's never peeled or been sore.

I think a GP appointment is needed for your little one x

Or if you can't get a GP appointment, maybe pop into your local pharmacy to get their opinion x

I had a stork mark as did my DD and it did not look like this. It was flat/ consistent with the skin, and more pronounced/flushed when crying or hot.

Rubyupbeat · 29/04/2022 21:18

That's not a stork bite.
Please get it checked out, asap.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 29/04/2022 22:06

Agree with others. My 13 year old still has a faint stork bite and it's never been like that - it was only ever a pink mark that has faded somewhat.

DropYourSword · 29/04/2022 22:09

Echoing pp's - I'd get this checked out because it doesn't look like a birth mark to me

Ducksurprise · 29/04/2022 22:10

Another with a stork bite child and again nothing like this, it's just a pink mark on the skin which also gets worse when agitated. I would send a econsult and send gp a picture

supermodel · 29/04/2022 22:13

I agree you should get it checked out, looks sore and more inflamed than a stork bite mark usually does.

Kat1953 · 29/04/2022 22:19

It looks like a strawberry birthmark to me, which I don't think are anything to worry about. I'd get a gp to give the peeling the once over, just to be safe, but it might simply be downtown skin difference of the birthmark.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/04/2022 22:27

It's not a stork mark. I don't think it's a strawberry birthmark (hard to be sure as the picture isn't quite in focus) - but if it was, and being that troublesome on the face, it might be worth treatment. Looks worth a trip to the GP.

iolaus · 29/04/2022 22:32

I do neonatal checks - I'd be referring in to be seen by a paediatrician (preferably a dermatologist) that does not look like a stork mark

TwoShades1 · 29/04/2022 22:48

That doesn’t look like a stork mark or strawberry bath mark. My daughter has both and I’ve been a member of a Facebook group about birthmarks, so seen lots of photos of them. I would get it checked properly by paediatrician or dermatologist.

Pob13 · 30/04/2022 22:42

Have you managed to get it checked yet?
