All I want is a conversation with someone from HMRC, there is no free phone number!

The website is taking me round in circles.
The phone number on Google is an expensive 0300 number via a company… they are the top 3 or 4 links on Google.
The HMRC website does not have a phone number anywhere!
I need to sort out my tax!!!
does any one have or can find the number???
I am very grateful, thank you!

Have you tried searching the number on saynoto0870.com?

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2022 15:42

0300 numbers cost the same as standard 01 etc numbers, so you pay the same rate, or they're in your free minutes/calling plan.

They're all on the HMRC website, just go through Contact Us.

Pietr · 29/04/2022 15:42

0300 is standard rate, like a landline.

Did you get an 0800 number on your reminder letter?

BritInUS1 · 29/04/2022 15:46

You can do online chat or you might be able to sort out the issue in your government gateway account

CoffeeKeepsMeUp · 29/04/2022 15:48

www.google.co.uk/search?q=hmrc+contact+number&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari#

hope that link works

Luckinspades · 29/04/2022 16:11

It’s over £3 per minute via the 0300 number.
I just want to speak to a person!
I’ve not had any reminder letters, I just got my p45 through as left old job & started new job and I am sure they are taking emergency tax off me as I’ve paid an extortionate amount this month.
I need to ring them to make sure they have the right tax code.

Wouldn't your employer sort that?

seperatedmum · 29/04/2022 16:13

phone tax aid charity they'll put you through to a different number. I love them taxaid.org.uk/contact

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/04/2022 16:14

www.gov.uk/call-charges

Where are you seeing £3 a minute?

alorslanon · 29/04/2022 16:15

I have called this number several times, and been helped very efficiently. I can’t remember how I found the number, but I saved it in case I ever needed it again. I hope it helps +44 161 931 9070

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2022 16:16

Isn't the amount you are taxed between you and your employer?

0300 is standard rate, I'm sure it's not £3 a minute.

Luckinspades · 29/04/2022 16:18

Employer saying that they have been issued a tax code by HMRC… so that’s the one they are using.
half of my pay went on tax alone this month. HALF!

StuckInTheMiddleOfNowhere · 29/04/2022 16:21

U can set up an account to do online and sort.

GiltEdges · 29/04/2022 16:22

It is absolutely not £3/minute to speak to HMRC.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2022 16:23

What's the tax code? You shouldn't be paying half your pay on tax unless you earn over £100k pa and have a student loan and then you should be paying 49% tax and student loan, because that's the rate.

Or do you mean tax, pension, NI and student loan deductions? That could add up to quite a lot, you can check it at:

listentotaxman.com/

JurasicPerks · 29/04/2022 16:25

Have you got a payslip?
What tax code is on there?
What is your cumulative tax for this tax year? Is it what you'd expect, or have your company done what someone else's did and put the P45 amount for last tax year in, even tho you've not earned this tax year from your old company?

0300 numbers should cost the same as 01 and 02 calls.

hauntedvagina · 29/04/2022 16:35

03 numbers replaced the free 08 numbers. I've spoken to HMRC on an 03 number plenty of times and never been charged.

CactusFlowers · 29/04/2022 16:50

You need to ring the number on this link. It is the official government site and it’s not £3 a minute. www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/income-tax-enquiries-for-individuals-pensioners-and-employees

CactusFlowers · 29/04/2022 16:51

Never use the top links for anything official as they are almost always dodgy.

Luckinspades · 29/04/2022 16:51

alorslanon
thank you so much for that number, just spoke to a lovely helpful lady who has sorted me out and explained it all to me.
