Has anybody used Step Change?

Hi,I was wondering if anyone on here has used Step Change for a DMP?
I need to know if they send you anything in the post? If so,do the envelopes have anything printed on them saying who it's from?
I'm really close to getting myself sorted but this is holding me back,I won't be able to go ahead if I will receive anything in the post.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Request for on email correspondence

quietnightmare · 28/04/2022 14:26

Only

Whatevernext1 · 28/04/2022 14:31

Thank you,I wasn't sure that would be an option.

the easiest way is to do it online anyway. They give you the options to print things off.
You can request email correspondence only, but as it's a DMP that may not prevent creditors contacting you by post

Whatevernext1 · 28/04/2022 17:08

Thank you for your help. It sounds like my creditors could write to me then so I think I will not do it.

Surely your creditors will still write to you if you don't do it?

DogWithMyOwnRoom · 28/04/2022 17:20

If you need to avoid getting letters you could set up a PO Box with Royal Mail, and also look into the ‘Transfer’ service
Seems a shame not to sort things out. If creditors are not currently writing to you, I don’t see why they would start when you organise a DMP

Orangesandlemons77 · 28/04/2022 17:59

They can be really helpful. I'm pretty sure anything they send would be discreet and you would get letters from cards etc anyway...

Whatevernext1 · 01/05/2022 11:49

Thank you all for your help.
I will look into a PO Box.
I'm just about managing to pay everything at the moment so my creditors aren't currently writing to me,I'm just getting in more debt finding ways to pay for everything. With Step Change I will be saving around £700 a month which would be life changing for me.
Thanks again for your help.

Sorry I'm back again!
I've been looking into the PO BOX suggestion but apparently banks won't accept this and have to have a physical address, does anybody have any experience of this? Thanks.

Are you trying to prevent an abusive partner finding out?

can you explain situation to bank and get permission to use a friends address? Or CAB address, or Womens Aid etc?

nearlyspringyay · 05/05/2022 13:43

Yep, and I can't rate them highly enough. I didn't receive any letters from them, all online and email. It reduced the amount of letters I was getting from creditors at that time.

Yes I can't let the person I live with find out. I hadn't thought about CAB or Womens Aid so thank you very much for that suggestion.

That's so good to hear. I don't receive any letters from my creditors at the moment,I'm just worried they will start coming if I proceed with the DMP.

Be sure DMP is the right step fit you as it will cause it to be more difficult to get a mortgage in the future or get credit

Barton10 · 06/05/2022 18:18

They really helped me and everything came by email. I didn’t get anything through the post even when it ended. Go for it and get your life back.

LadybirdBodkin · 06/05/2022 19:00

Can't recommend them highly enough OP. Absolute life changer! Recently finished a 12 month Debt Relief Order. All correspondence via email, no phone calls (unless requested). If you have to go on the insolvency register you can opt for details to be hidden if circumstances dictate. I did receive 2 letters from credit card companies in the first few months, but if you relate your situation to Stepchange I'm sure they'll be able to advise. Staff are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and empathetic. Wishing you the very best OP, hope you get the outcome you desire. 💐
