Quick question for anyone who has been to a christening recently

Did the godparents go up to the font during the baptism? I went to one at the weekend and they weren't asked to - they just remained at their pew. I've been to many baptism services and have never known that happen before. I wondered if this is a new thing, perhaps due to covid?

Maybe one of them had mobility problems?

At DS2s baptism in October 2021 the Godparents went up to the font with us (and this was in Italy, which has generally been stricter on Covid than the UK)

Went to one in the last month and yes they went to the font for but only for a photo. They did their oath thingies in their pews.

I was at one a couple of months ago (Catholic baptism) and all godparents were at the font.
Mind you, most of them came down with Covid shortly afterwards.

At my daughter's last year, the godparents stayed in their pew, which wouldn't be usual in my denomination (church of Ireland). I think the COI has been fairly tight on covid restrictions overall and our minister in particular was extra so (didn't sign her with the cross, got me to do it instead).

Christening or baptism?

I’ve never known this in either Catholic of CofE churches.
