For context, at a normal distance

or is this how spiders sleep??

I’m not afraid of spiders but I don’t like this one!

He's sleeping

UsernameInTheTown · 26/04/2022 18:46

It's having babies. That is their birthing position 😂

greasyshoes · 26/04/2022 18:46

Just a spider. Leave him be.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/04/2022 18:47

It's just resting. Just leave it and it'll sort itself out.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/04/2022 18:49

I had this to contend with the other day. It's a false widow in my gazebo.

Indeed. But cue faux-hysterical cries of “burn the house down!! move!! There’s no other option!” which aren’t funny

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/04/2022 18:51

He is in the process of metamorphosing into a much, much bigger spider 🕷️

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/04/2022 18:55

Aw, please done kill spuders. They're good guys. Very ugly but good. They kill all the bad things in your house (not including husbands!) If you must, just put it outside. That way, although it'll come back in, it'll find a better place to hide.

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/04/2022 18:56

Spuders?! Spiders even! 😅

motherofchihuahuas · 26/04/2022 19:00

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

How big was it!

How did you get rid of it?

OrangeyRed · 26/04/2022 19:02

Don't waste any more time wondering whether he's asleep or not, hoover him up & then nuke the hoover.

LadyTwinkle · 26/04/2022 19:04

A Spider's legs will curl underneath them when they're dead. If they're layed on they're back it means that they're about to moult.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/04/2022 19:04

It was a good size. He'd just come out of hibernation, hence his legs looking a bit wonky. I just left him alone and he went somewhere. I don't kill them.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/04/2022 19:05

I keep tarantulas so nothing bothers me when it comes to spiders 😄

TargusEasting · 26/04/2022 19:06

That's the Prometheus Prone position. This is how they lay before springing out into an unfurled face-hugging attack mode.

IncessantNameChanger · 26/04/2022 19:09

It’s resting. IMO they curl inwards when they die with feet tucked in. Reminds me when I was doing field studies at uni and a very large spider who had fallen into my cup of soapy water ( to trap insects) decided that 24 hours in a cup of water wasn’t enough to die and it jumped up and ran off as soon as I had put my head within a foot of it under a microscope to indentify it, wasn’t actually dead. Now I prod before getting my face close and personal.

😅 this time of year I feel like I’m the tenant in my own home - I’m living in some flourishing animal / insect ecosystem in an old village house. Even this evening looking out my window I said oh look at that squirrel playing at the end of the garden (100ft garden) neighbour goes nope! that’s a rat! Gaaaah
