What is this incredibly well-known classical music?

I've written down the theme. An orchestral piece that sounds sort of pastoral and springy and like morning, although it's largo, I reckon.

It's so well known, the sort of thing kids learn to play on the recorder.

No idea. I'm taking to long remembering my childhood music reading mnemonic.

This thread has blown my mind. The idea that somebody could have a piece of music in their head and then write down the notes is amazing, and even more amazing that people could work out what it was from it! Incredible minds at work (or maybe mine is just very very unincredible! 😂)

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/04/2022 18:42

yep

LegArmpits · 26/04/2022 18:43

I knew straight away it was the music from Peggle 😂 but I never knew what it was called.

I'm thinking you must have played a bass instrument!

Mine were FACE for the spaces and Every Good Boy Deserves Football for the stave lines, treble clef. I have a vague memory of music theory classes where we had these sheets with elves on them and the elves used to put the notes in the right places on the stave.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 26/04/2022 19:29

This made me lol. I’m from Hull, so the notes of the staff were Elephants Go Bounding Down Ferensway.

I was just about to comment that same thing! 🤯

Smidge001 · 26/04/2022 19:40

Oh - I thought it was the BA theme tune (flower duet?).

Delibes, from Lakmé? Beautiful duet!

Smidge001 · 27/04/2022 23:35

Yes, I love it! We had it at our wedding.

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/04/2022 23:38

I could tell from the OP's "pastoral and springy" what it was!

eddiemairswife · 27/04/2022 23:49

When was 13 I had 3 weeks off school with measles, and spent a lot of time listening to Schools' Radio. I heard 3 programmes about the music for Peer Gynt

SecretPineapple · 28/04/2022 00:24

So weird. I know virtually nothing about classical music and cannot read music at all. Never played any instruments. But I knew the song from sort of humming your notes. I just didn't know what it was called until someone else said it and I went off and listened and I was right! Smile

Was thinking the same!

I would have to ask DD- age 6 he learnt to read music in a few days and they tried to teach me... the results were laughable 😂

Even more amazing is how people read the notes and are able to know where to position fingers etc on the instrument to play them at the same time!!

🤯

Reading music amazes me too. I sang as a child and could read music in so far as I could say "that's an A and it's a quaver" but I never progressed beyond the kind of spelling it out phase - like a child learning to read words by blending sounds I suppose. I never got anywhere near the equivalent of recognising whole words even!
Strangely I was talking to my musical DS about this recently. I asked him if when he read music he could hear it in his head. He looked at me like I was a bit mad and said "Yes of course. It's exactly the same as how you hear words in your head when you read. Music is just a different language." I'm not sure whose mind was more blown - mine by that concept, or his by the realisation that not everyone can do it. I wish I could! I love listening to music of all kinds but apart from a bit of singing I never had the chance to really learn anything.

EinsteinaGogo · 28/04/2022 07:05

Is it also the Hovis theme tune??

KatherineofGaunt · 28/04/2022 07:15

That's the second movement from Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Williamshatnershorses · 28/04/2022 07:18

Well, I’m quite delighted to discover this morning that I can still sight-read 🤣

Love a bit of Peer Gynt!

AtomicBlondeRose · 28/04/2022 07:20

The Hovis music is the New World Symphony by Dvorak. It does have a similar up and down style though.

I can read music and did work that out from the picture but I can’t just hear it in my head. But I’m only a self-taught piano tinkerer. Someone with much more musical training would have a far better understanding than me!

Yep

dS can do this too. It’s amazing.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/04/2022 07:27

I too guessed it from the description and am also thrilled that 26 years after stopping piano lessons i can still sight read and hear the music in my head.

Although I now have Peer Gynt in my head...
