Elon Musk has bought Twitter, what could possibly go wrong? 🤦‍♀️

I don't know anything about his politics, but I know he's pretty random and unpredictable.

Will Twitter descend even more into the cesspit of misogyny, hate speech, extreme politics and craziness?

Well considering he blocks people that he doesn't agree with or that challenge his opinion, along with the news that he is planning on putting some of Twitter behind a 'pay wall', doesn't seem to me like he is in the slightest bit for 'free speech' at all. He's also going to allow Trump back on the platform in days.

I think, even though I loved being on Twitter, this will sound the death knell for it as a platform and long time users will leave. I know I'm planning on leaving now.

yellowsuninthesky · 26/04/2022 08:58

I also thought about leaving, but it's a bit too useful for work, other platforms like LinkedIn or Feedly don't quite do the same job.

I think I will wait and see. Even if he lets Trump back, I never followed him anyway.

It's not just Trump - it's his cronies that infiltrate everywhere with their fake news. We haven't had 'fake news' to the same degree since he was removed from the platform.

I've never used Twitter but I don't think I'm about to start now. My life, fortunately, ticks along very nicely without it.

I'm sorry for those who might want to leave but somehow need it for work.

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/04/2022 09:07

I've been thinking about leaving for a while, took a break during lockdown and it did wonders for my mental health, but ended up being drawn back. So this seemed like a good prompt to finally deactivate my account.

Going to miss some of the interesting and informative accounts, but not the constant flow of anger and hatred that site encourages.

He gives me the creeps. I know that's unreasonable of me. The man can't help his face. But his smile says hello I'm your friendly local serial killer.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/04/2022 09:47

I've never joined. I don't think I'll be bothering now because I don't see it improving under his watch.

Trump is just awful 😖 I was glad when he was banned so he couldn't spread his rubbish.

Maybe he'll ban all the child trafficking and MAP accounts and hashtags?

I've never particularly liked Twitter and very rarely use it.

I've only vaguely followed what Musk has been up to but I am quite surprised at how quickly Twitter basically just became his once he set his sights on it - despite Twitter initially saying that he wouldn't take control. Money talks I guess.

Said it hadn't posted. Apologies.

Anyway he says he's going to remove "censorship". I don't think so somehow with the UK's Online Safety Bill and the EU's draft Digital Services Act, both of which require large platforms to police dodgy content.
