Any dentists around or anybody with a bit of tooth left behind after extraction?

Long story short. Back molar removed 5 weeks ago and the tooth broke. The dentist tried to get the two roots out but failed. Went back the following week to see the oral surgeon. He too couldn’t get it out and it was agony! He stitched it all up and said it needs to come out as he’s moved the roots. Got an appointment in a couple of weeks for a third try under sedation.

it feels fine. It appears to be healing, it’s completely painless and I can eat on that side without a problem. I can however, feel something sharp under the side of my gum, which I assume is the piece of root.

so my question is, can I leave it for a while? I have had to pay for this treatment privately as I’ve been on numerous waiting lists for NHS dentists for 2.5 years and the treatment is due in the middle of exams/presentations and essays due in for uni. I have now made it to the top of the NHS list so have an appointment there in mid June.

I had 10 days of amoxicillin and a course of doxycycline so I’m confident there’s no infection in there. I don’t want to cancel the appointment if it’s desperate but I also don’t want to have to do all that again and recover in the middle of exams.

It may be working it’s way out anyway. I’ve had bone shards make their way out months after an extraction in the past. If it’s not causing any pain or infection I’d just leave it be, if a problem develops you’ll know about it.

(Not a dentist, but owner of teeth and have had previous extractions).

Personally I would have it out I've snapped teeth off at the roots and despite antibiotics the infection returned again and again
