CT scan waiting times

my son was referred for a CT scan on 21st April. I wondered whether anyone has had recent experience of waiting times for a CT scan.

He's back at uni but reporting ongoing symptoms so it's a bit stressful. Hoping to find out how long this particular form of stress (waiting for the scan) will last and when it will be replaced with the alternative form of stress of waiting for the results!

honestly, having children: no wonder it's where the expression "hostage to fortune" comes from.....

My husband just had one on Friday, 11 days after seeing the GP. I hope your son is okay.

thanks Twill.
how long will the results take or did he get them immediately?

would PALS know waiting times?

It depends on the urgency and indication. Life threatening scans first, suspected cancer second, everything else prioritised from there down.

Give the secretary a ring and ask waiting times

ServantofthePeople · 25/04/2022 20:46

ok will do.

He only got it done on Friday, so no results yet and they didn’t indicate how long he would be waiting for them either.

Doc referred me on 9th March. Still waiting for the appointment. Was told 7 weeks waiting list so hopefully will hear this week

It could be anything from weeks to 6 months plus if it gets decided that it's routine and depending on capacity of the hospital. I would get him to call the radiology department of the hospital as they are likely to know the most up to date waiting times. Similarly the report will depend on the capacity of the radiologists and the urgency. Could be 1 to 4 weeks ish.

Totally depends on the urgency. I had one within about 10 days of referral, but I believe it was quite urgent at the time.

I'd urgent, it can be hours (which is what it was with my daughter), is more routine it may be months, and depending on the concerns of anything in between.

I had one the day after referral, the hospital called me and booked it in.
