Anybody else find Kindles really weird and glitchy?

I've just bought a basic Kindle and it's not what I'm used to at all. It's all kind of slow and sluggish. It goes to the store randomly even when I haven't clicked on it. You press or swipe something then, after about three minutes, it responds 🙄

It's like some kind of weird ancient technology 😄

It sounds like it's not working properly!

There’s 4 in my house, all old models and all of them work fine. I think you need to get yours looked at

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 25/04/2022 17:19

Ds2 has one. I'll get him to fire his up and see how it compares.

Yep. Took it back to Argos. They argued, we argued. Eventually a flustered manager said, 'Well they're not supposed to be any good are they?' and I insisted on a refund under the Sale of Goods Act (the not fit for purpose bit).

Got my money back. Never again.

SweetPetrichor · 25/04/2022 17:29

Nope, I've had various kindles over the years and they're great. Sounds like yours isn't working properly.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 25/04/2022 17:38

Ds has looked at it and says his is like that and that they don't have very powerful processors. It's just the basic model. Dunno what I was expecting 🤔

That does seem slow, my basic Kindle did the job. I've just upgraded to the Paperwhite as a Birthday present. But on another note I have been annoyed by the fact that you can no longer buy a Kindle book on the Amazon App. You have to go into the proper website. This seems like a step backwards by Amazon.

Hugasauras · 25/04/2022 19:10

I've never had this problem with any of mine. Sometimes display will take a few seconds to reload if you're on store etc. as it uses e-ink, but wouldn't call it sluggish and reading is totally responsive. Amazon are good with returns so send it back and get another!

Hugasauras · 25/04/2022 19:11

(Assuming you mean a Kindle and not a Fire tablet, which is a different thing)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/04/2022 19:14

E reader or Fire tablet.

Fire tablets are very basic, especially compared to many smartphones.

The Ereaders are good.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/04/2022 19:20

Mine just changes font size whenever it wants for no apparent reasons.

i Have to constantly reset it.

Abraxan · 25/04/2022 19:26

I've used Kindle e-readers for years, as had DD. Dh has one too.
We've had a range of models over the years including the basic one, Paperwhites and I have an Oasis.

None are slow like you describe and don't go to random places, change random settings, etc. All work well, even the oldest of the ones we still have.

igivein · 25/04/2022 19:28

My does this, and I’ve forgotten how to reset it - please, please, please tell me, it’s currently on the smallest font size and I can barely read it

igivein · 25/04/2022 19:29

Sorry, my last was for @ArseInTheCoOpWindow

CMOTDibbler · 25/04/2022 19:29

I've had three Kindles now and none of them have been weird, though if I let my books really pile up (and I mean hundreds of downloaded books) they can get a bit slow, but a bit of filing and its fine

SillySallySassySausage · 25/04/2022 19:32

I have an old non-touchscreen one that I'm guessing is 6-7 years old and it still works fine. Yours sounds faulty.

DinosaurOfFire · 25/04/2022 19:35

Mine (Paperwhite) was a bit like this at first. You can do a hard-restart by pressing the power button down for about 15 seconds, and then the amazon app updates. Once I had done this one or two times, it stopped being nanoying. The tech is much slower and older than say, a phone, so not comparable to a tablet etc. But, I do prefer the kindle to read on, and after getting used to it, it's my favourite device.
