Is this normal? Pain after smear test

I had my smear test yesterday 9am, which went absolutely fine with no discomfort. Today all day I have been having cramps like period pain, and I'm bleeding slightly. Is this normal?

I'm in my 30s with 2 children so have had a few smears, but don't recall feeling like this afterwards.

I had that last time OP. Along with diarrhea and a slight fever.

The nurse really fucked it up though. Couldn’t find my cervix then dropped the stick on the floor and had to do it again. So I had two smears 🙄

if it hasn’t passed by morning maybe ring your GP.

I had that once when my smear was done only days before my period was due & started. Is your period due soon?

I think the nurse did a good job, it couldn't have gone more smoothly. I'm on day 18 of my cycle so don't think I'm close. Cramps are getting much better now so I'll see how the bleeding is in the morning.

Hi I created a thread about this exact issue a few days ago in women's health and got no response. Please don't be offended if I join you on your thread as I seek the same answers.

I am 43 with a ten year old child. Last week on Tuesday I had my first painful smear test. It felt like she'd pulled a chunk of flesh off, I felt an actual snapping which is weird as I don't know what they use but surely it's meant to just scrape? I had an instant cramp and pain, and a few cramps which disappeared whilst getting dressed. The nurse actually asked me if I'd felt like I'd been abused! Of course I said it'll go over.

I had spotting for several days afterwards which really smelled bad. Not fishy but just very unpleasant. Also slimy discharge. This hasn't truly cleared up yet but it's much less. I am however having random cramps and I haven't had those for many years.

This was a repeat smear as the first one wasn't accepted last month. I don't know why.

@Boomerwang I would go to the GP with your issue, that doesn't sound right! My pain has stopped and bleeding is slowing.

It's been a while. The bleeding stopped after a few days but I still have the unpleasant smell. I have started a period and will see if the smell returns afterward. I can't work out how to describe the smell. It's a bit like black mould mixed with rusty metal
