My parents live there and am pretty confident it will be Macron but tiny bit of worry anyway.

Macron won.

Good news!

I'm not a particular fan of Macron but anyone is better than Le Pen - thank goodness the French voters saw through her new smiley image.

Thankfully Macron has won (or predicted to comfortably)

The exit polls seem conclusive.
Le Pen did well enough though, worrying times in some European countries.

Very good news. Relief all round the EU I imagine.

artisanbread · 24/04/2022 20:02

Thank goodness for that.

Hmm I'm not convinced wasn't the margin by 52%? Whichever way you cut this cake the far right is definitely on a rise throughout Europe. One of the reasons we don't have an out and out far right party in the UK with a realistic prospect of gaining power is that the tories manage do that very well under the guise of looking out for the wellbeing of the 'ordinary' citizen.

AlisonDonut · 24/04/2022 20:03

Thank fuck for that.

If any of you speak/understand French, watch BFM TV live. It is my go to when anything breaks in France.

There is live coverage of Macron's entourage moving through the streets of Paris to Champ de Mars for a victory rally. So lovely seeing Paris.

And yes, even though Macron is not perfect he is 100% better than the sinister wolf in sheep's clothing that is LePen.

Projection is Macron 58%, Le Pen 42%. More than a far right extremist should get but not that close.
