Why does the dog sit on my feet at every possible chance?!

I thought initially it was to keep her behind warm but she does it all the time and everywhere. I don’t know why she hasn’t twigged that I’m unlikely to be standing still for long and that she’s going to get turfed off almost immediately.

The plus point I suppose is that I must be burning a few extra calories dancing around the place like Michael bloody Flatley!

Do other dogs do this?

Maybe she just wants to be close/touch her favourite person.

I love it when mine insists on lying on me 😁

SiobhanSharpe · 24/04/2022 16:10

She thinks they smell nice? 😊😊
I have known a few dogs who seem to be very interested in the smell of feet. (Not mine! Dogs or feet... )

One out of my 2 does this, it's just closeness/comfort. The other one's small enough to snuggle up on my lap or squeeze in between me and DH.

We had a cat who would do this. Only to my feet though, nobody else’s, very strange but cute!

SilentBob · 24/04/2022 16:13

My dog doesn't do this but i've met a few who do. One of my cats, however, always wants to settle down on my outstretched legs. I have restless legs and she knows I will involuntary yeet her off at any given moment but still persists.

Nailest · 24/04/2022 16:17

She is very cuddly (and gets lots of them) but the foot thing seems counter productive for both of us! Is that what it is do you think then, a need to be close?

Yes, she lurrves you!

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 24/04/2022 16:19

Because she loves you. Or wants to appear like she loves you. Ours used to do it to random people in the park he thought might have treats - edge his bum right up on their feet and look up their legs at them with his head just above their knees. It worked a lot. It was a very winning look.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/04/2022 16:24

Mine does this too
It shows she loves you
Mine will also put his head on my knee and sigh happily

Will I get rewarded if I start sitting on people’s feet - I could do with some extra treats in my life - or does it only work for dogs? <ponders logistics>
