Scotland/North England holiday recommendations

Travelling to Cairnryan on the ferry and staying for 4/5 nights so need somewhere within 4/5 hours drive in Scotland/north England.
Looking for a nice town/village, preferably seaside or Riverside with some history/museums and good food. Happy to be close to a bigger town/city. We've done York and Edinburgh and Glasgow before, ideally would like to do a city day trip then some nice coastal walks.

Would love some recommendations

There are some lovely coastal towns in Northumberland such as Bamburgh, Seahouses and Craster. You’ve got loads of history along that part of the coast: Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle etc…. You could do a day trip to Newcastle or even Durham, and also you’re fairly close to parts of Hadrian’s Wall.

East Fife? Beautiful coastal villages with access to St Andrews or Stirling. Beautiful part of Scotland.
