Looking at one of these and seeing if anyone has any insight they can give me.

Currently have a focus but it's a bit on the small side for me.

Will be going for a Tekna model, around 2015.

Anyone on here have one that they can give me some insight into owning one please? Read a few reviews etc and they all seem positive

Thank you

@EvilPea

Sorry to
butt in - quashquai hater here - what do you mean about the diesel? I’m a semi rural not v populated part of the north west and it’s costing me a fortune! Are you saying I could find cheaper if I just drove a bit? I would!

Not the fuels cheaper but the cars are a lot cheaper. Sorry if I misled you with my ) on reflection, ambiguous language. Sorry!
but if your after a cheap diesel come down south, I’ve seen some bargains that will make your eyes water. People are losing ALOT of money on cars, even fairly new stuff, people just aren’t touching them. And if you’ve a ulez compliant to part ex, you’ll have your arm bitten off and the cost to change will be minimal.

e.g Golfs that we’re £10-£15k last December are now going for £5k-7k.
there’s some higher end stuff so Range Rover diesel, Audi SQ5’s, Landcruisers that they genuinely cannot sell at auction, no trader wants them. These cars were 30-50k last year.

GettinPiggyWithIt · 27/04/2022 09:32

Ok thanks, I’ve got a 2011 bmw which I will be running into the ground for the reasons stated above!

Bad news. That’s a really good era bmw and will probably outlive you. Grin

however, the greenest car you can drive is the one you already own so you are doing your bit for the environment anyway!

as a side note, forgive me if this is something you do already, I use waze to find the cheapest fuel near me.

Supremely helpful thread as I was considering a Qashqui, but have started swaying towards a Kuga as I am a Ford girl at heart. The cost of used cars though, FML.

mummyh2016 · 27/04/2022 11:21

How big a boot do you need? I upgraded from a Juke to a Kuga a couple of months ago and it was the best thing we did. Boot is big enough for our travel system plus a big food shop. I struggled to fit the travel system alone in the juke!

ButtonSister · 27/04/2022 12:23

We had a rubbish experience with ours. Clutch went twice in 15 months, two of the tyres were without sufficient tread within a week of taking it home, and other problem which added to our feeling it wasn't the car for us. Also bad attitude from Nissan showroom once we had purchased. Lots of gizmos, which I liked, but not much use when the car won't go.

That’s very much age dependant though surely? The vast majority of diesels made in the last 7 years are ULEZ compliant if I’m not mistaken?

as a general rule it’s stuff with adblue, however that’s not always the case. I know one person that has a 16 plate merc with adblue that is not ulez.

however all diesels have taken a massive massive hit, even fairly new stuff (so your under 7 years old).
People just don’t want them and traders aren’t risking having them stuck on their forecourt.

I have a petrol.
Wouldn't buy again. Struggles up hills and overtaking.also not much storage around drivers side, eg for glasses etc.

@EvilPea
Thank you for your advice on here. I had been thinking of the Qashqai too.
I need a big boot for hauling dcs sports gear including golf clubs and trolley. But it looks like the Qashqai won't cut it.
Would consider a hybrid.
Need to have 3 adult spaces in the back- dsons and friends are big lads.
Sorry for hijacking your thread @Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/04/2022 13:48

Three of us in our road had a Qashqai. Two of us got rid quickly, The third kept it, but refused to use the local Nissan garage. As well as the satnav failure and battery failure in a car only a few months old, engine management system lights would randomly appear.

CockingASnook · 27/04/2022 13:52

They’re hateful things. An estate of whatever is in your budget is miles more practical.

TheReigningLorelai · 27/04/2022 14:01

I have a 2014 Qashqai (Premium Acenta, I think?), and have had very few issues with it. The air conditioning needed a complete overhaul a year ago but is now fine. The boot space is perfect for us with 2 children and their paraphernalia!

I'm selling it though as we're just going to have one car for a while so if you're interested send me a PM.

Windypants21 · 27/04/2022 14:24

What has happened to Nissan? ! I bought an Almera second hand, years ago, best car ever, outlasted a brand new BMW that did alot less miles. It never needed garage visits beyond the usual MOT and mid year service, whereas the BMW was a regular visitor for one reason or another. Moved abroad so i sold it, it owed me nothing. Thought I'd get a Quasqui on my return as I liked the look of them, then i heard stories about issues and boot size. Decided to go Hyundai instead and have had no complaints, and I did, and do, ALOT of miles. Unfortunately its diesel but I will keep it until it, or I, expire !

Don’t know what your budget is, your going to need a sizeable car, I don’t think a qashqai would have been big enough. As @CockingASnook says Estate is more practical. 5 series estate has good inside cabin space as well as nice boot space . I’ve known a few people with tall families get on well with the Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid, but I don’t know what the boot space is like (I’m going to assume good as I know one that does cash and carry runs!). Just look after the windscreen (or your insurance excess!) it’s 1k to replace. Audi A6 might fit the bill, you’d have to check the rear cabin space. But the boot would do the job.
A blow the budget option would be a Volvo XC90 hybrid, utterly brilliant car. you may get away with the XC60 but you’d have to look and try.
id also have a poke around a rav4 or Lexus RX hybrid, both good solid cars that will go on and on. But both suffer with metalwork that will get a dink by someone sneezing 10 miles away (good safe cars just dink easily Confused)

it is going to be a case of trying the clubs I think, for instance I know you can get a set of clubs in a VW Up! But not a focus hatch.

im not sure I’ve helped much there! But there’s a good few vague suggestions that might help.

EvilPea · 27/04/2022 15:07

sorry Tried to add to my post to say don’t get a bmw hybrid. Their warranty is proving problematic on anything over 3 years, effectively writing off cars that need battery replacements with the cost and them shrugging at issues.

however all diesels have taken a massive massive hit, even fairly new stuff

Most diesels I’m seeing are still priced pretty highly. A 4 year old 640d GC for example is now £5k more than it was pre-covid.

I bet if you walked in to that showroom and offered that 5k less they’d take it. They might even take more off if you felt really cheeky.

im not saying you’ll get a nearly new car for a fiver, but there are some bargains to be had, more so if you happen to live in an area unaffected and are happy to travel.

The petrol equivalent would be an interesting comparison.

My brother had a Hyundai Tucson, loved it and spacey too.

I'd back this up. We looked at the Qashqai because DH is 6 foot 7 and so we wanted a decent sized car - but when he had the seat adjusted to where he needed to have it - there was absolutely no rear space for anything other than a toddler to have legs really.

We have the Hyundai ix35 which is what they went through a period of re-naming the Tucson to and it's a cracking little car - not had a spot of bother with it really apart from the handbrake cable needing adjustment.

That’s a very good shout. They are a good all rounder and just plod along.
I knew I’d missed a few good suggestions in my vague not sure the budget list!

LunaLoveFood · 28/04/2022 16:28

Love mine. Cameras are great and never had a problem with boot size. When we go camping we do have a roof box too, but that's because I tend to pack everything and the kitchen sink! Dc are growing big but still plenty of room for them and all their stuff including scooters (which don't fold down) that live in my boot.
