Looking at one of these and seeing if anyone has any insight they can give me.

Currently have a focus but it's a bit on the small side for me.

Will be going for a Tekna model, around 2015.

Anyone on here have one that they can give me some insight into owning one please? Read a few reviews etc and they all seem positive

Thank you

We've got a 2016 teckna 1.5 diesel.
I upgraded to it from a ford fiesta not a focus though. DP can sit comfortably in the back & we can fit 3 adults across the back.
To be fair we managed that in the fiesta but you were practically sat on each other 😂
Boot also seems pretty big & I love the "hidden" storage so i can put my jump leads / picnic blanket etc out of site & still have the boot.

When looking I liked the sound of the ford kuga but hated it on the test drive! Qashqai is my much comfortable driving position. Also didn't find it as rocky/bumpy ride as they Hyundai we also test drove.
Definitely try a few different cars OP & see what you like.

I have a 2015 Nissan qashqui tenka 1.6 diesel and I bloody love her. I feel like I got a lot for my money eg leather heated seats, panoramic roof, 360 camera and sensors. Mine is also £0 road tax.
For work I carry a lot of kit ( cleaner) and I find the boot absolutely fine. I also have a 360 car seat for my ds in the back and my dds (17&20) can still fit in the back seats.
Its flew though mots.
Id previously had a juke which I loved but was a tad small but it had turbo so it really shifted when I put my foot down. If I was nit picking I wish my quahqui had that but it makes up for it in other ways.
My qashqui is perfect for me and I definitely wouldn’t swap it.

SadLittleLife · 25/04/2022 09:23

Always fancied a Qashqai then DH got an X-Trail as a company car. Top of the range with everything on it.
Loads of space and great driving position but terrible build quality and loads of persistent electrical faults which were never properly sorted.
That was brand new. Wouldn't touch a 7 plus year old Nissan.
I also had a Focus previously and that was so much better quality.

I've gpt a 2014 petrol model and hate it.

It's very underpowered and has no acceleration. The gearing is weirdly set up.

The boot is very small - or is at least an awkward shape which limits what you can get in. It's a struggle to get all DCs stuff for uni in, even with the back seats down.

The rear passenger area is very cramped - our DC are now 20 and 18 and are really cramped in the back, but have been ever since early teens.

It has poor visibility, things like auto lights and auto wipers operate very strangely.

Random warning lights come on, but there is nothing wrong - the garage just say it's a known issue, and it can't be fixed.

The only thing I do like are the rear view parking cameras, but I'm sure those are available on other cars....

Evenstar · 25/04/2022 09:28

I had a 2014 model, I really liked it and it was fine for myself, DH and 3 small dogs going away with dog crates, luggage etc. The problem we had was that foxes attacked the cables underneath and I sold the car after over £1,000 of bills as it happened 3 times.

I would really recommend the car but I wouldn’t have another myself unless I could put it in a garage at night. Apparently Nissan changed the coating on the cables in 2014 to one containing soya which was more environmentally friendly, and attractive to animals, and the cables are in a vulnerable place on the Qashqai.

TulipsHere · 25/04/2022 09:29

I have the +2 and I love it. Bigger boot space with the option of two pull up seats. Think they stopped making them in 2013/2014

JengaTower · 25/04/2022 09:35

I thought I wanted one till I sat in one and realised they're really pokey inside and that my 6 ft DS would not squeeze comfortably in the back. The drivers seat is not a pleasurable area to sit in at all

Bluevelvetsofa · 25/04/2022 09:37

My Karoq had far more boot space than the Qashqai and the back seats can be removed if necessary. It had a more comfortable driving position, more comfortable seats and lots of equipment. The garage was better too! My neighbour, who has back problems, bought a Karoq after travelling in mine. They’d been going to get a Sportage, but preferred the Karoq.

MaggieFS · 25/04/2022 09:41

Boot dimensions done by volume include the height which isn't necessarily easily usable, unless you are going to jam it up to the roof regularly.

Look up the length x depth for a more realistic comparison.

MaggieFS · 25/04/2022 09:42

Sorry, width x depth 🤦‍♀️

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 25/04/2022 09:43

Honda CR-V, lovely ride, like a TARDIS, and boot is a massive 589 litres. We used to get three huge Labradors in the back of ours.

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/04/2022 09:43

I had one and absolutely loved it until things started to go wrong and then I found repairs to be horrifically expensive. I got rid of it and now it's just me and young DS, I've reverted to a small hatchback.

I found the boot perfectly adequate personally and big enough to hold an adult sized mountain bike with the rear seats laid flat. In terms of fuel, it was juicy and I was spending £150 a month on diesel. I found it to be a comfortable and enjoyable drive and having parking sensors/camera was a bonus. Overall it worked really well as a family car but when I divorced it became a bit of a drain hence sizing down.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/04/2022 10:26

I absolutely loved mine. It was a 64 plate eco diesel with zero road tax, Panoramic roof and all the tech. I felt like the queen of the road driving it.

Unfortunately it was also cursed.

Air con broke - took 6 months to get the right part.

Drove over 4 nails within 4 months and the tyres are bloody expensive!

Crashed it into a wall in a multi storey (I had been driving for 14 years and never even grazed a kerb before!)

Van came flying round a corner and took out the drivers side of the car! It was in for repair for 4 months because. Yes, they were waiting on a part.

Lost my job, sold it and bought a cheap focus instead.

Despite all that I bloody loved that car!

StrangeCondition · 25/04/2022 10:44

Had a 17 plate Tekna which I got when it was a year old, electric driver's seat failed, windows failed, broke down on the motorway 4 times with no explanation, heated windscreen failed repeatedly, eventually handed it back as we were given a brand new Tekna for less money and more benefits. Car had delivery mileage only (25), within a week it was in the garage as the AdBlue system failed and had to be replaced, brand new battery, windscreen issues again, heated seat failure. Have just sold the piece of shit and would never have another one

Your 1.6 diesel has a turbo. Was your Juke petrol?

Orangesox · 25/04/2022 11:39

I has a Qashqai on loan for about 6 weeks whilst I was waiting for a vehicle to be delivered. It was the most underwhelming faux SUV I've ever driven. It was almost brand new, and the lease company had to come out to fix things on it three times despite me barely driving it - I had just had surgery and needed an automatic vehicle to drive myself to rehab once a week. Also quite concerning issues for a new car like serious warning lights, electric parking brake failure (terrifying in hilly yorkshire) and going into limp mode.

Not a patch on the Ford Kuga that I had prior to that, or on the Kuga that my mum had before she passed away. Boot was awkwardly shaped (wheel arches intruded into the space) and quite shallow from the boot floor to the load cover for that size of vehicle - the quoted litres is with the flexible boot floor lowered which then makes it difficult to lift things over the boot lip. I was incredibly glad to be rid of the thing when it went back - I hated it with such a passion because it made me anxious about breaking down on the motorway or a main road where I would be trapped in the vehicle vulnerable on account of the fact that I couldn't scale road barriers or really move quickly at all while I was recovering from spinal surgery. Seats were also incredibly uncomfortable which was less than ideal - might have been because it was so new though.

On the other hand, one of my best friends has one and loves it. But her only requirements for a car are that it's automatic, and that it fits a buggy 😂The seats in hers are also shite when I've been a passenger, but I accept that I am fussy when it comes to seating.

Terrible reputation for reliability with Nissan denying issues and not fixing or resolving issues.
gearbox issues are a known problem as are, electrical issues.
Nissan and Renault are the same company so don’t think it’s a reliable jap car your buying
in the trade the juke is known as the joke. I always advise our customers to stay clear from Qashqais or jukes unless they want to keep me in fancy goods.

fords are good but stay clear of the earlier 1.0 engines it cannot take the miles.

id look at a Tiguan, or Rav4.

If your nowhere near a congestion zone diesels are dirt cheap at the moment, the arse has well and truly fallen out of the market. Petrols on the other hand have gone through the roof as people are trying to get out of them.

should have rewritten the last bit.
petrols have gone through the roof as everyone’s trying to get out of diesels.

@EvilPea do you have thoughts on the skoda kamiq or hyundai ioniq?

Triffid1 · 25/04/2022 12:46

We had one for a few months while our car was out of commission. Great car to drive, lots of cool features and gadgets - the camera was especially good - etc etc. But my god, did it inhale petrol!? Cost us an absolute fortune to run and we couldn't get rid of it quick enough.

We have a Skoda Octavia and love it, and the boot space is IMMENSE. But if you want a SUV/SUV-lite, I believe the Skodas are also good - I know a couple of people with the new electric one and they LOVE it and it feels pretty spacious.

I’ve not come across either at work yet as they are both new models.

I’m a big skoda fan. They are hugely under rated and well equipped. I am probably tempting fate with this statement, vw group stuff tend to have nothing major or unusual go wrong. They come in, get serviced go out again! I love the VW autos. The 1.0 &1.2 very early ones struggled a bit (too highly tuned) but now, they seem to be fine even with high miles and age.

the Hyundai, I’ve heard a lot about them, and all very good, to a point that people are surprised at just how good they are.

the skoda is a safe reliable bet, the Hyundai the electric “odd ball” as it were.
Get an extended test drive to check the Hyundai fits your life. I’ve known a few people buy an electric and then return them after a few months, whilst others have one and will never go back.

tentative3 · 25/04/2022 13:51

Thanks for that EvilPea, appreciate your thoughts.

Shade17 · 25/04/2022 14:07

I highly recommended Which and WhatCar reliability surveys. Nissan have gone rapidly downhill since the Renault merger. Skoda seem to be the most reliable brand from the VAG stable with VW being average at best. Some of the most surprising scores I’ve seen have been from Honda, traditionally ultra reliable they’ve not been doing so well. Toyota as always are a good bet, can’t go wrong with Toyota/Lexus products.

EvilPea · 25/04/2022 16:02

Toyota and Lexus do have the best aftercare. Their warranty is really very good.

GettinPiggyWithIt · 27/04/2022 07:16

@EvilPea

Sorry to
butt in - quashquai hater here - what do you mean about the diesel? I’m a semi rural not v populated part of the north west and it’s costing me a fortune! Are you saying I could find cheaper if I just drove a bit? I would!
