I just had the best dinner in the WORLD

Following my thread yesterday about the best chocolate in the world…

I just had a platter of prawns in garlic butter, manchego cheese, Spanish cold meats, potato tortilla with crusty bread, crackers and olives

Eaten leisurely in front of the TV with a glass of very nice red wine

Any other contenders for best dinner in the WORLD?

That does sound bloody lovely, tbh. I love meze-style food.

The best dinner I ever had was one I'll never be to recreate. I was working on a Greek island and one of the bar owners took used to take us out on his boat sometimes. One day, he hung a line over the side of the boat whilst we were heading home, and caught a massive tuna. We all went back to his villa, and he filleted it and grilled it, and served it with pasta drenched in olive oil and flavoured with lemons and chillis from his own garden. Sheer bliss on a plate.

Peri chicken from the take away tonight - not quite the same!

Blimey op that sounds amazing.

I eat chips and dips when home alone with wine. Or cheese and crackers and pate. Yours sounds like the ultimate version!

TheDogsMother · 23/04/2022 20:18

That sounds really lovely. We're just back from Spain and ate this way all the time. Probably my favourite type of food (and wine).

I had a bowl of salt&pepper chips, salt&pepper chicken, soft noodles and curry sauce. It's my guilt pleasure

I just inhaled a Turkish bbq takeaway of chargrilled chicken, lamb, chicken and lamb beyti, salad, rice and alllll the meze with delicious bread. I’ve only had 2 slices of toast and a chocolate digestive all day and it was bloody heaven. I’m stuffed now.

Did anyone else read that in Jeremy Clarkson’s voice? 😂

DaphneeBridgerton · 23/04/2022 20:34

@TheChurchOfEli Haha it really does work in his voice!

Oh that tuna sounds delicious - and a nicer atmosphere than my toy-filled living room!

Everyone is out and I’m not feeling great so I made a tuna melt on seeded brown bread and sweet potato fries. I’m going to follow it with some ferrero rocher eggs that I’ve hidden in the veg drawer 🙌🏼

DaphneeBridgerton · 23/04/2022 20:44

That would be my second choice - Turkish food is so good!

You absolute genius! The kids would never look in there!

Where in Spain were you? Nothing better than plates of tapas with cocktails/wine in the sun!

Steak, chicken goujons, home made herby wedges and a green salad.

Ohhhhh it was good

ErinAndTonic · 23/04/2022 21:00

Sausage sandwich with salad inside. Slim pickings in the fridge but it was a solid 9/10. Looking for a bit of inspo from everyone else!

RudolfsLeftToe · 23/04/2022 21:07

Neither does DH 😄 There are loads of Easter eggs for them to eat but these eggs are mine!

Best dinner in the world was in Crete, lovely place up a mountain run by a Welsh woman and her Cretian husband. My dad got lost, as usual on holiday so we were two hours late and ravenous.

Prawns covered in salt and herbs barbecued. I was sucking the shells/heads long after there was anything in there just to get the last bit of flavour.

Can't really recreate in Croydon

TheDogsMother · 23/04/2022 21:08

@DaphneeBridgerton We spent a month living south of Cadiz on the south west corner or Spain. Fortunately both of us can work from anywhere so it was a great adventure and fabulous food.

weegiemum · 23/04/2022 21:49

Our best ever meal was the chef's table tasting menu (with paired wines) at the IceHotel in Sweden for our silver wedding anniversary. I don't even want to start to think about how much it cost, but worth it!

HollowTalk · 23/04/2022 22:01

@weegiemum Is that the one on the amazing hotels? It looks fantastic.

Poppins2016 · 23/04/2022 22:04

Mmm, that sounds amazing. Delicious.

weegiemum · 23/04/2022 22:20

@HollowTalk I'm not sure about where you have seen it. It's in northern Sweden in a village called Jukkasjarvi, and there are "warm" cabins and one night in the "cold" room, which was great with the thick sleeping bags and thermal jammies!

We did husky sledging, ice carving and visited a reindeer farm and spent a lot of time in front of the fire in the huge bar drinking local gin!

Dh is a GP and had had several patients die prematurely in the few months before, and finally phoned me one day and said "we're going to the IceHotel" as someone our age had just died and he didn't want to end up in the same situation.

All the food was excellent, fantastic breakfasts, and each dinner we had was great. It really was ££££, but we honestly spend very little money on ourselves and we love cooking fancy food, so to get it done for us was fantastic!
