Meeting with extended family to celebrate a birthday.

Please share your tips for keeping conversation going or for bringing a few laughs if chat stalls.

Any thoughts anyone, dreading those awful big gaps in conversation!

Do you ever prepare key topics or questions?

People love talking about themselves. Just start a conversation with 'So tell me about your...
job
pets
home town
last holiday
next holiday

If those conversations dry up, you could try saying you're looking for a new hobby. What do they recommend? This will get them talking about their past times and skills/areas of knowledge.

Thank you!

Yes, questions and listening.

I was wondering about something with a bit of fun…I don’t know ‘ask the birthday boy a question?’ Or even taking some ‘talking’ cards to guide us.

As you can tell I’m anxious about silences and also feel some responsibility for everyone having a good time.

‘Bring a baby photo’ is always good, or the ‘2 truths and a lie’ game

Like the baby photo idea.

Maybe I need a list of questions and ideas on my phone…something to refer to….I’m rubbish aren’t I?
