aaagggghhhh! My Thumb!

Just slammed Right thumb (nail) in door!
I've run it under cold tap (I know that's for burns, but why not?)

I've got a three day golf trip tomorrow and not sure if I will be able to grip a club.
What else can I do to minimise damage? any point in taking ibuprofen?

Any visible wound? Watch for your nail - if it's badly bruised and bleeding under there, the pressure might build up and that's agony... Would need a hole drilled in the nail to relieve the pressure.

You have my sympathy, I slammed my finger in a car door a long time ago, broke the end of the bone and had a nasty split open finger for weeks.

Thanks @SilverHairedCat
I don't think its as bad as that. if I had paid out a lot of money for this golf trip it wouldn't matter.
No nasty bruising yet so that's a good sign

Definitely take some pain relief, keep the finger iced on and off to help prevent swelling and keep it raised when you can.

ouch !

Keep it cool , ( you did the right thing by running it under a cold tap ) if you have a thumb ring on take it off in case you thumb swells , as pp said keep a eye on blood blisters forming they hurt like hell under the nail ,

I got my index finger caught in a door when the wind blew it shut , t'was not fun at all Sad
